Cashmere Luciano Barbera scarves in various colors purchased years ago that no other brand I've come across in the ensuing years can match.

Two of those big old schoolboy muffler things from J. Press.

Four lambswool plaids from Press, which they were giving away at the end of the season a couple years back.

Half a dozen assorted others, mostly lambswool, picked up in thrift shops.

Scarves feature heavily from mid-October until the end of April, at least.

Although not as destructible as socks, scarves are a close second. So you can never have enough, as the old rule goes. They seem to fray easily and I always get a spot near each end that wears through, strangely.

Re: How many winter scarves do you have ?

I must have a dozen odd lying around, I am a bit of a scarf nut (and I feel the cold). Silk, wool, acrylic, rayon, woven and knitted. All good.
Silk and rayon, and the shorter woven scarves get the most wear since they fit easily into a pocket when not in use; I follow the same principle with watch caps, keep 'em thin.

When the temperatures really plummet though, cashmere is hard to beat for warmth with lightness.

As I recall I have seven. I have three that were knit for me by my mother about 50 years ago--one in black, one in orange and yellow and one in red, white and blue. I have three cashmere scarves--in navy, olive and forest green with a black overplaid. I have one "schoolboy muffler"--a wool Balliol College, Oxford, scarf.
