Re: Groovin' at the I Spot -

Sad news indeed Hank. I was once a fully paid up member of the "Legion of the Cramped" fan club. I adored them. A legendary band with an awesome front man. Believe it or not I have an Ivy related memory of The Cramps. Going to see them at the Hammersmith Palais (1985?) I wore a black woolen lightweight Brooks Bros sports coat recently purchased for £5 in a vintage clothes store in Bristol. Woefully ignorant of its 3/2 button styling a spent about an hour the night before with a steam iron trying to press the lapel back into 'shape'. Oh dear. All the while cursing whichever fool had previously pressed it. One lives and learns! I still have the jacket but never wear it as it feels too big. I was quite happy with loose and slouchy back in the day.

Haven't heard it... but I don't know the complete recordings...

Anybody read "The Buddy Holly Story" by John Goldrosen?

Re: Groovin' at the I Spot -

Some Hi Records for you Prof Kelp.

Otis Clay "Trying to Live My Life Without You"

I used to smoke five packs of Cigarettes a day
It was the hardest thing to put them away
i drank four or five bottles of wine
I kept a glass in my hand all the time
Breaking those habit was hard to do
But nothing prepared me for the changes
That you put me through
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3hQ37rocXf8

This one's a wrencher. Good Sunday stuff.
Ann Peebles "Trouble, Heartaches and Sadness"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kDX0AkoZmaw

I couldn't find Syl Johnson's "That's Just My Luck". I think it has just too much damn soul suffering for youtube. I really cannot recommend the track enough.

What am I doing here, with another man's wife.
I'm shaking in fear, but I'm having the time of my life.
I'm a fool to put my life in jeopardy.
But I can't help myself, she makes sweet love to me.
This ain't the way I was brought up,
But I am sure enough caught up in this chain of love.

I think it's the lyrical equivalent to Jim Thompson's damned men.
