^ From our old Brother Zach AKA 'BandOfOutsiders'. I hope he gets the chance to do much more over there as he knows his stuff & has a real feel for it. Interesting date on the article: '72.
They need to edit their 'Ephemera' column over there btw, having fallen for Richard 101's latest attention-grabbing stunt...
Some very nice exchanges re: Zach today via PM & email. He's very fondly remembered.
Let it be know:
Any future silly emails from Mr. Chensvold to The Torch Society will not be answered. His attempt to get a rise out of the Society is a miserable failure and has made him a laughing stock once more.
Jus' passin' on the news...
The Torch has spoken!

What panache!
... Which is why you really shouldn't send them silly emails!
Actually, I like his crusade! He's opened my eyes... it's a little bit like this:

Let us praise "Ivy-Style" once more -
I liked the Commuter pics very much this morning. "Life" again? It usually is over there.
After a surfeit of Campus pics it's good to see them spread their focus out a bit.
The text with the photos sadly didn't work for me however. Is it necessary to always have text? It we are to always have commentary from people who don't know their subject then I think it's ill advised. A celebration of Commuter culture would have been more unexpected & much more interesting.
Having commuted myself at one stage of my life I know that the outsider's view of it all as a rat race is very far from the truth. I loved the culture of familiar faces and habits. Drinks & snacks. Books and newspapers. The endless chances to pretend your train was delayed to explain why you got home late after drinks after work. I found it all very 'clubby' & nice.
'Ivy-Style' needs to take more care with the meanings they ascribe to these vintage pics. If they want to talk about a culture then they need to actually know it. Otherwise what is it that they're actually serving up?
Agreed. I really liked the pics. Really made me want to see more vintage commuter action. That bar car was especially interesting.
