Custom Shoemaker Andrew MacDonald in Sydney

Andrew does men and womens shoes. He makes a last and machine makes the shoes (blake or goodyear). He says he is capable of stitching shoes by hand, but there is no demand for it. He sees hand stitched shoes as unneccessary; he sees it as a more traditional thing than anything else. He highly rates `blake construction'...almost as good as goodyear he reckons.

He did a shoemaking course in Australia and did a really really brief stint at John Lobb London (only a couple of months l believe) in the 80's.

He may have some points about different construction techniques, and handwork, which all sounds like the iGent debate about handmade suits. But it sounds like he doesn't have enough training to have such strong opinions. One could probably learn how to make decent quality slippers and mocassins in a new months, but not serious welted shoos.
