I just saw a snippet from some homemaking institute. They state the average outlay for clothing is $750 per annum.
Along with tips for these hard times; selling whole blood, hair to wigmakers and recycling cans< Steinbeck sigh>
These good people declared only $150 in ACCESSORIES is really necessary and the $600 saved can go to other expenses. I imagine things like flour mills and frog gigging spears for aluminum cans.
I've personally been struggling with spotty employment for two years. My personal situation was aggravated by a apartment fire and insurance that didn't consider 30 y/o clothing worth much.
My painfully slow wardrobe refit so far boasts 3 pair of Allen Edmonds, a Loden and Harris sportsjacket, 5 Sam Hober ties, 5 CHEAP dress shirts, a AE belt,6 irish linen handkerchiefs and 11 pocketsquares.I like pocketsquares. My one, navy suit does not deserve mention by name.
Cheap turkish made socks from the dollar store, BVDs bought by my mother ( happy 55th birthday ,my little boy) and 2 Costco slacks are it.
Oh, I have my riding kit, mercifully at the stable when this fire happened. I wear working clothes when I am working.
Now, a quick talley shows even my EBAY and discount 'wardrobe' has far exceeded this $750 average. So, I must ask: What are the bluejeans, flip flop or Surgical appliance and hoodie over 'I love CAN CUN' tshirt sartorialists spending $750 on per year?
And more frightening, what are these $150 in accessories?
I'm off to sell blood. I need that twelfth pocket sqaure.

Given the preposterous prices for many lines of blues jeans and sneakers, I could easily imagine these types dropping a great deal more than $750 per/a on their duds. I can recall one co-worker being dumbfounded that I had paid less for my wool slacks than he had for his jeans.
