Of the American Dream and creepy photography

"I like bars just after they open in the evening. When the air inside is still cool and clean and everything is shiny. The first quiet drink of the evening in a quiet bar-that's wonderful."

Re: Of the American Dream and creepy photography

There is certainly a real danger in looking at old stuff via advertisements. We must suppose that the old ads were every bit as misleading as new ads, although I do trust photographs in ads more than drawings or text. It is possibel that in the 1950s people were less apt to dismiss advertising or fashion stylism and might have actually tried to look like the people in the ads. Today, no one pays attention.

Re: Of the American Dream and creepy photography

that photo looks like a scene out of "Don't Knock the Rock", one of my favorite 50s rocknroll films

a few great jitterbug scenes in that film where kids start out hanging out like in that pic, then break into a jitterbug.  Love seeing the gals wearing high waisted pencil skirts!!

Chums,

True on the Leibovitz criticism.  I particularly disliked her manufactured row with Buckingham Palace.  Leibovitz wanted to photograph the Queen riding a horse inside the palace,, then complained that those stuffy Brits couldnt see her artistic brilliance.

Cheerio

Alden P. is always interesting. A slave to 'Trad', but his every post de-bunks 'Trad' these days.
