One of the last US made traditional BDs - Has anyone bought any of these from hugestore.com? Eljos of charlottesville sell close outs on ebay but those evil Eljo tradleys don't ship International.
Any tips on cut/size etc?
I checked out my Gitman BDs: Similar rear box pleat, front placket and pocket to Brooks BDs. No 3rd collar button or locker loop.
Main differences to the modern US-made Brooks brothers BDs:
Eight button front against Brooks' seven buttons, gauntlet button and two-piece yoke. The collar appears lined, but the cuffs are not. The 2nd button is cut 4" from the top of the collar giving a neater look when worn open necked.
Measurements for 15.5/34"
Shoulders 19"
Pit to Pit 24"
Waist 23"
Collar length 3"
Any other questions, just ask.
Chris
Thanks Chris,
the measurement especially help to navigate the sizing minefield.

The Gitman "Cambridge Cloth" fabric is also pretty damn heavy. Heavier than most, including Brooks, I'd think. I think it's worth trying one out. Esp. in that cloth.
I bought a Gitman off hugestore.com for the hell of it a while back. They were also running Gitman's on-line site or "order fulfillment," at the time. Or so it was claimed.
Don't know if this is right or not.
Gitman's moving offshore now?
I heard the people doing the work for Gitman in the USA, were mostly in Penn. And that many were old seamstresses. That there wasn't much young blood in the factory.
I don't know how good you're going to get in alterations. I'd rather just get my size if possible.
Thanks Horace,
I think the Sero shirt project may have superceded my desire to spend $85 plus shipping (and probably tax & duty). It doesn't surprise me that ehy are thinking of going offshore. If you look at the workers in the handful of Northamptonshire shoe factories here you'll find the same thing, 70% are over retirement age and keep working only because they want to, but for how long?
