I'm beginning to feel privileged that I passed the 11-plus, went to grammar school and had a year of it before Derbyshire scrapped the system and it went comprehensive.  It gave me ample opportunity to study Harringtons, Budgie jackets, lary tank-tops, basketweave loafers, lacy pastel shirts and all the other non-Ivy crap that then constituted 'The Look' in this, the boil on the backside of Britain. 
Fair play to Barbour, though - wearing one of their jackets (if you can stand the whiff) may lead the infinitely preferable Grenfell.  Rule of thumb: check out how many tens of thousands of items are being peddled on Ebay. 
By the way, it's only the lower middle classes who now seem to send their offspring to non-exclusive private schools.  One beauty asked me: is Africa in Europe?  Another - thick as shit snow-boarder - couldn't tell the difference between Korea and Vietnam and needed to know if the First World War began or ended in 1914.  What we baby-boomers used to refer to as General Knowledge...

I honestly think that the Grammar schools gave the best education. The Private/Public places were all about snobbery & networking.
