The shoes look great. The "holes" are nothing to get so agitated over. You sound like a neurotic girl. It's leather, for heaven's sake, and leather has natural imperfections. Wear them once and they'll get far worse marks. The smudges are also nothing.

What about holes in H&K shirts ?
The perils of ordering by post. I like your initial choice though.
John Rushton has a shoe called a Budapester in his window. A clumpy thing with a boxy toe.
Is that a VASS ? Or Dinckelacker ? It is certainly not as sleek as your choice - a bit agricultural-looking, nearly an orthopeadic shoe IMO.
When you think about it, those John Lobb prestige shoes seem reasonably priced compared to the E.G. Firstly they have the extra strict leather selection (would boost up the prices a fair bit because lots of leather is apparently wasted), then they have the antiquing (always takes time), then they have some handwork with the bevelled and close cut waste. l can see why they are worth what they are. l suppose if Vass had a really strict leather selection and fancy antiquing, they would be worth alot more.
It does strike me that perhaps they just put the wrong pair of shoes into the post? But given that you got a discount/refund, did Eiko suggest that Vass accepted some liability for the poor quality and they were indeed destined for you?
(I recently received a pair of old english II in black, of which the quality was as good as ever).
