BTW, the natural coloured raincoat in the "Birdland 4 AM New York 1960" pic is a DB, I'm sure...
... just mention this, because I don't think there's just one style for a raincoat.
Both my raincoats, my tan one and my famous blue raincoat don`t have raglan sleeves, but I love them.
Nevertheless, I have to admit that I can relate to this othodoxy. So if I were looking for a new raincoat, it would have to be a tan gabardine single-breasted fly-fronted one with a Balmacaan collar and Raglan sleeves... that's how the forum group think works I assume.... but I guess, if I found something great that fits me well, it wouldn't be a problem if there were some other details deviating from the ideal...
For example, I love the London Fog coat that the Weejun posted about in his blog. I think there were also some vintage ads in the Boom Years thread.... Really curious about this semi-Raglan-sleeve construction... Was it an LF trademark, or are there other examples?
I also like the double-breasted raincoat as pictured above, but I believe DB styles are more typical with trench coats.....
As a non-native-speaker of the English language I am curious about the term "mac"/ "macintosh"... I think it's only used in the UK. However, an English friend of mine said it was used to refer to somethin else- not the style of coat we're talking about here. Stricty speaking, I guess, he's right... I think it was over here, that I read that this term refers to the fabric.... something like a triple layer thing with waterproof material in the middle, right?
In everyday usage, however, a mac is just any raincoat, right?
