Re: Lord Whimsy, Mammal of Paradise

Isn't Lord Whimsy old news by now? I have been aware of this professional eccentric for the better part of two years. As I recall, there is supposed to be some sort of movie or documentary being made about him.

Re: Lord Whimsy, Mammal of Paradise

Lord Whimsy is an acquaintance of mine and a good fellow.

He is having a lot more fun than most people I know.  Would I wear a black watch tartan suit with purple lining?  I doubt it very much.  But he does, and carries it off.  Definitely an original.

The guys at Dandyism.net seem to hate this guy.  Or at least reserve their most dandyish disdain for him.  I think Lord Whimsy reminds some of us of our own playful, rules-breaking shadow selves that we prefer to not think about when picking out shoes and belts.

I suspect that Dandies are something like ideological political movements: ultimately the infighting's what the whole thing's about.

This guy Whimsy's a splitter!

A friend's insightful view of Whimsy:

He’s either an autodidact who spent many years working retail and never went to college or he’s a Yalie.

I am familair with Lord Whimsy, actually from a rather early inception of his "persona". I've also met his perfumer friend, Douglas Little, who currently sells his wares at Barney's New York.

Yes, the Dandyism.net people seem to hold a grudge against him; one can't help but be reminded of some other baseless grudges.

I think "hate" or "grudge" are too strong a characterization of the prevailing attitude toward His Lordship among the stalwarts of Dandyism.net. In proper dandiacal fashion, I would say that "amused disdain" would be a better way of putting it.

OK, perhaps not hate, but whatever it is it's somewhat jejune and I'm glad FNB makes fun of far more deserving targets smile

On that note what cut of steak s more trad, a ribeye or a porterhouse?
