I would brush my teeth, get a fresh haircut and skip the hat. No point in trying too hard. The rest looks good, especially the narrower tie. I would keep the links simple too.
A light coloured raincoat would go well with that when making an entrance, if that's the weather you've got at the moment.

Re: Need advice on colours.

lt's an outdoor/indoor event in Spring and my hair is complete crap (hair = useless..impossible to style..a slight breeze and it looks like Donald Trumps). A hat will do me justice (lots of important eccentrics will be around, so l won't be over-doing it...will fit right in). Maybe some nice aviator sunglasses too.

Need a hat that stands out for it's quality but still blends in nicely. Lots of guys will be in overpriced crap RTW hats and will all look the same, so l need to get something really special so l stand out and draw attention in a positive way. l won't look tryhard (everything will look comfortable and not too matchy), just a picture of sartorial elegance. wink

I would ditch the red square and go with a white TV fold.

Ditch the aviators. It sends a subliminal message you are hiding your true feelings- Think 'eye to eye.'

Re: Need advice on colours.

The american image of OZ is Mick Dundee (a local resident) or somebody out of AB Banjo Patterson in a Drizabone burial shroud slapping everyone on the back, calling them mate and guzzling Fosters while spinning a bullroarer to get the bartender's attention. This image is cultivated by several local OZ expat building tradesmen with kangaroos on their work vans or tucks.
Funny, another nearby resident, Mel Gibson who can dress very nicely, uses a older irish union man who wears ties on the job.

For better or worse, many stereotypes have a grain of salt- or a 50 lb cattle lick in them.

And if you try to 'go mufti' odds are you run into people like shooman is trying to cultivate.

Tony V is dead on target about that tie.  It's a great tie, but it's dead in the water with that suit.  You need something that pops a bit more.  I'd use a bold foulard or paisley.  Something that stands up to the strength of the stripes in the shirt.

I hate to say it Shooey, but yeah, it's just too understated.. I actually would have chosen something in a strong navy..

Re: Need advice on colours.

I like that tie much better, and actually, beats my suggestion of the solid navy to hell..
