I just saw a very nice casual sportcoat by Crittendon - presumably Crittendon Rawlings, formerly of Oxxford. A tweed jacket, unlined, unpadded, double vent, open patch pockets, and a connected strap around the back with the fabric pleated into it (pardon the ridiculous description - I'm sure someone can name that feature).
Seems like the kind of thing a trad might wear when he feels like a walk on the wild side.
Anyone know anything? I'm intrigued.
Sounds like that Scottish style of jacket my Dad used to bring back with him when he visited his friends up there.
Tomasso - thanks. I saw the jacket at Bert and Jess Clothiers here in ABQ, NM. They had one sample in a pale olive herringbone and a small swatchbook containing several tweeds. You now know as much as I do. I don't believe that the jacket I saw had shoulder pleats.
The back is typical of a kind of 'Norfolk' jacket.
Usually a Norfolk jacket is belted, but there are those with sewn-in half-belts across the back.
Very 1900's onwards, very 'Country', very English or, even... German (!).
Probably by that I mean Austrian, but I'm no expert.
It's a Shooting kinda thing. Hence Norfolk.

Yet more -
Looking at the back a bit more it is probably an 'action back' or 'bi-swing back', very useful for swinging a shotgun.
I'm sure that both the boys in the TV version of 'Brideshead' wore half-belted backed jackets in the early scenes.
