Book Review: History of Men’s Fashion

http://www.mensflair.com/shopping-guide/book-review-history-of-mens-fashion.php

I especially like this quote.

'...At Wimbledon he recommends you wear a blazer, white ducks, co-respondent shoes, a cravat and a panama hat. Even in the members’ enclosure that would hardly be subdued. At Twickenham, meanwhile, Storey says “one should wear cords, a jumper, the Barbour, a cap and stout country shoes.”...'

Come on Nick, who the f**k wants to dress like that...?

Re: Book Review: History of Men’s Fashion

The antagonist with 4 posts vs 1194 of the protagonist might share with us his reason d'etre

( that's french by the way.) I've found it helps to keep one's mouth closed and eyes and ears open

in a new venue to find out A. what the atmosphere of the place is and B. the personae of the

posters. Obviously, Formby is held in enough regard to stick around, whereas you are acting like

the new inmate picking a fight with the biggest prisoner to establish your place in the pecking

order. If so, you failed, miserably, and should sleep with your arse to the wall in vain hope of

remaining a virgin.

I rendered no assistance to Formby, merely observing the horse you saddled and now must ride.

Sadly, it seems less amenable to mounting than your princess.

NJS,

To begin with, I am the LAST person you want to compete against riding; in metaphor or afield.

You wrote a book? Well good on you. I've written books, and graduate thesis, letters to my local

newspaper and love letters. I even 'tagged' a USN Minesweeper one night.  I've been  praised

and damned for all my efforts. It's called the writing game, and if you don't want the Hoi Polloi

involved in your aspirations to taking tea with the Queen lobby to abolish public education and

universal literacy. Your only other option is to suck it up like a man and grow skin thicker than

your stationary.

Re: Book Review: History of Men’s Fashion

Nicholas, you would do well to heed Chris's Kavanaugh's counsel and get to know the posters and the forums style a little before you go for the jugular so to speak. You seem to be making hasty judgements about people without getting to know their style. There is a certain irreverence on this site that you may not have picked up on and a thick skin and an ability to not take oneself too seriously will serve you well.

Now, enough of this crap, start posting some interesting discussion starters...

Re: Book Review: History of Men’s Fashion

Thought that you might like to know that Country Life gave the book a 3/4 page lead book review in the 20th May edition, ending "Hats off" so it is nice to know that someone likes it!!
