Re: ... "Hardcore"?

At the end of the day, people are more interesting than clothes. Actually far sooner than the end of the day.

One day I hope to know 85% of everything I ever wanted to know on the subject of clothing. I intend to retreat as an old fart with a great wardrobe and no need for a computer...

Re: ... "Hardcore"?

I'm pretty much with Moose on this one.  I own relatively few things I couldn't bear to part with, and those tend to be strictly practical items like my old US Navy pea coat and US Army, Woody-style combat jacket.  Anything from, say, Press (besides the scarves) are vulnerable.  I'm scaling back most of the time, switching my attention to Shetland, cotton and beaten-up leather.

Re: ... "Hardcore"?

I like John Simons' attitude towards a computer - much like my own towards Strasbourg, tofu and ley lines.

Re: ... "Hardcore"?

It has always been about the people for me too. Most of the truly interesting ones I've been in touch with ( privately ) and try to keep it like that. Some people like Chris and Robin I've even met and they were just as nice as I'd expected really. All the other bullshit I can't give a toss about.
I have to say I like the Ivy Style blog for what it is though.

Re: ... "Hardcore"?

For what it is.

I was against its creation from the start. It's just an outpost of the RL blog that Christian Chensvold wrote for before, this time dragging in new influences for him from here. Even Zach was from here.

... Then again I was also personally against developing 'Trad'. The idea that it could lead to something better was always deeply flawed IMO.

- And I was even very half-hearted about the 'Modculture' recruitment campaign, FWIW.

What real good has come of any of the above?

More to read, sure. But more is often less.

Re: ... "Hardcore"?

Jim ol chum,,

I fear that you have lost me here,, mate.  The man who trolled the Trad forum into a separate existence and always stated that it was just clothes and all showbiz is now concerned with a lacking of authenticity??

I fear that if you do not cheer up,, you shall next tell us that you are only eating triscuits and bland foods like our ol chum.

Perchance you should assume the title of Iron Hand of The Look and sort this whole net out.

Yours most truly,
Trip

Re: ... "Hardcore"?

Yeah, the thread on IL style was one of the best in recent years on MC, very insightful I thought and great pics too. Jim deserves a pat on the shoulder for that, to be fair to the bloke wink

Re: ... "Hardcore"?

I'll state my opinion alright. The iGent thing ( I'm only vaguely aware of BTW ) isn't worthy of thought, simple as that. As for CC I think the man is a professional and does his job well which I can appreciate. Most of all though I'm here beacuse of Chris, Daniele and Jason whom I knew via MC, they sorta made me join. Then I read Jim's stuff, Tony's and later on Jesmond's Downbeat Cool post etc. 1966 has only recently joined but he's most certainly one of the enthusiasts that make it worth my while to keep checking TI. Moose is always interesting as are some of the younger contributors ( esp pics ). Heikki is definitely an iPal of mine and I like to think John Brideshead may have joined partly because of yours truly. Oh, and I wish Robin would post more often ! I may have forgotten to mention a few but that wasn't on purpose. When I stop and think of it also GG ( and what was written under his other pseudonyms here and elsewhere) I've enjoyed reading most of the time too although I get the impression he's not too fond of my imput wink

Keep up the good work people ! cool

P.S. How could I forget chet.....

CC is a wannabe 'professional'. But not on this subject.

I gather Christian is about 'dandyism'.  Not really up our street, is it?

Re: ... "Hardcore"?

'Russell' a fascist?  More the suave, sophisticated Philby type I would have thought.

I could not have said it better '66. I think it's safe to say your internet journey and your post would be echoed by more than a few who found this forum.

Re: ... "Hardcore"?

Puppet master Russell Street would have said my post is proof that he trolled me out of my ignore mode.

I'm happy to reply to Jim though.

Re: ... "Hardcore"?

SS, are you named for the Fritz Lang movie?  I love him, and EG Robinson.

Suits the name of the forum!

Re: ... "Hardcore"?

Yeah, that's what I took the name from. One of my favorite Lang movies. Up there with M, Fury, and the original Dr. Mabuse for me. I chose it because of the name of the forum.  Kind of a nerd.

Re: ... "Hardcore"?

Rob, greatly put.

As for the Internet being 'fake' and 'unreal' etc. ok, so it might be especially to london crowd (or americans as well) as you lot (hopefully) have a community or network of sorts of real people over there in the real world + places to go, see, feel, even buy stuff like js et cetera. for me instead, living in the big suburbia (or should i say siberia) of the world there is no such thing and thus this supposedly fake world of internet msg boards is a REAL means of communication, information exchange etc. ok, also, over here there are also a few like minded individuals into their ivy or ivy related stuff, who are very knowledgeable (some much more so than myself) AND who not for one reason or another do not spend time over on these internet msg boards. also i have to state that besides being great + informed dressers these blokes are even greater mates: if one would only be the former i probably wouldn't bother to be friends with to be honest. better a good bloke who's a scruff than a well dressed arsehole, thre are too much of the latter type in this world.

also, for me, the internet is a real means of getting my hands of real stuff (aka clobber) as well as there aren't too many retailers over here who would sell stuff that fit within the look. a hilfiger shirt w/ a nice collar roll every now and then just won't do. and now my finance / family situations do not allow me to take trips abroad, say to js or the like, no matter how much i'd like to.

also, i feel i'm on a lonely(-ish) island over here (finland) as with my beloved style and i think i'm not totally wrong in saying that alex or rob for instance do feel same-ish. i have to put that being not a subculture / scene person (albeit a bit in the soul scene over here but it's about bloody music / records and not about collar rolls.. wink the choice of course is entirely mine.

edit: as for the iGent / andyland etc stuff i could not care less. over the last five years or so, when i've first found all this iClothing stuff, i've visited - say - andyland no more than a few times. nowt of interest over there for me to be honest.

and yes, alex, jason daniele, chris are those because of whom i ventured over here (fnb) at the first place, having seen a link on a post by some of the mentioned, can't remember whom.
