Re: Quality of Crepes

exciting!

still though, i prefer the originals with the crepe sole, particularly on the shoe model on the right of 1966's photo - i think i love that shoe.
they look more rugged and i kind of like rugged at the moment.

Sanders are fine.  Hard-wearing soles.  The company even replaced the original laces for me.

Re: Quality of Crepes

I had a pair of Playboy with hard rubber soles.  Red, and I looked a twat in them, so they were Ebayed or something.  You live and learn.

Re: Quality of Crepes

Hey 1966
Before you performed the crepeotomy on your new playboys, I was going to mention that the natural rubber would probably shrink and wear naturally to resemble the much older pair. But if you had to have a go at them nothing works better than RIGID.wink

Re: Quality of Crepes

There is another site that sells the Danish playboys internationally, but they're even more expensive, if I remember correctly...

found it:

Apparently, these shoes are also hip with the house music scene...

Re: Quality of Crepes

I wonder what the sales figures are for "Original Playboy" in Scandinavia with the shoes priced so steeply. And do they realize imitators(GBX) are cashing in on them. Why not test the waters. I'm sure it could only help.  Nice find 1966

I thought this was a post about crepes --- as in to eat --- there was a chick about three years straight that had a stand on the left bank, across from Our Lady, who was tres fuckable.

Re: Quality of Crepes

Hello Gentlemen.
This is my first post after reading your all your very entertaining and informative conversations avidly for many months.
Can I just put in my twopenneth worth in to this 'crepes' discussion. Having been a long time playboy chukka devotee, I bought two pairs of GBX boots from America. Yes, they are cheap and initially look the part, but they literally fell to pieces after 2 week of light wear. So, if you decide to take the GBX plunge be careful Gents, you really do get what you pay for.

Re: Quality of Crepes

Welcome Beatnik.
Most of us would be happy to hear about your earlier experiences with these shoes. Or style and life in general for that matter.

Just don't mention McQueen - his influence here is so big, he tends to overshadow threads. Whenever he gets mentioned it excites the "preps" and "trads", they just keep adding comments about him.

Re: Quality of Crepes

Cheers 1966, have enjoyed reading your posts, you certainly know your stuff.
Of course we acknowledge the huge influence Mr. McQueen has had on us all, but, I agree that's been done to death a little bit.
I'm possible a little more inclined towards Brando. 'The Wild One' was a big influence. I have a penchant for vintage leather jackets, roll necks, side burns, shades, jazz, Levi's and my style is a little more Bohemian than Ivy, although I really admire all the individuals and stylists who contribute to this site. And we share loves for the loafer, the harrington amongst many others.
