See photo at the bottom.
I never knew Holt had a company making stuff like that. It is a nice sleepy little town.
I know of this place. It's a conundrum.
What do you reckon to the jacket overall? Prison issue?
There's a very funny vibe on that site.
Methinks it's not quite for the likes of us. Smacks of New English Dandy goes mildly unstructured.
Bryan Ferry in a boiler suit? Not unstructured but not... not... not Ivy...
I still think it's not quite right for England. Mind you, I suppose in a way the grey jacket's no worse than a pea green two button Haspel wash n'go I once had.
Thumbs down then from this side or what?
Thumbs down from me. It's just odd stuff.
I live about 5 miles from Holt and sometimes look in Old Town if I feel the need for a smile. The basis for the clothes seems to be pre-war, if not pre-1st ww, proletarian garb. That`s a bit rich given that Holt, particularly in the summer, is crawling with Chelsea tractors (spotless) and green wellies (ditto).
I`ve been told that Monty Don of BBC/Observer gardening fame gets his clothes there and if you`re familiar with his heavy cords, braces and collarless shirts you`ll get the idea.
Old town is a bit of a dead end ,stylistically, really. I know that I/we are partly living in the past but at least the Ivy style is a living tradition ,however much we like to moan at the decline of Brooks and Press.
If they made a tighter version you'd look like Bill Sykes. Just add cane and vicious dog.
Wasn't the Marshalsea a Victorian clink?
^ Chum of Chums - Aren't you our man in Bristol?
PM a newbie to the City?
Ta,
I'm with Aljazz on this one. I visited the shop a few times when it was still on Elm Hill in Norwich. Found it far too pretentious with it's eccentric rustic looked. The sack cloth ties with what looked like potato prints gave me chuckle. Yes very Monty Don, or some affluent, ernest type working for English Heritage (the board not the concept) or somesuch. Like the man says, its new home in Holt fits it down to the ground - and not in a good way as anyone who is familiar with that bijoux little town may agree. Scarred by too many visits with my ex-in laws!
