In some ways the most individualistic of the Russell Street trio. Often very pared down indeed: white t, dark polo shirt, dark denim. It's a look I like and have tried to emulate.
Another side to J.Simons: the Lovegrove love of Elvis, of American cars, 'American Graffiti': the natural crossover between hard core Ivy and the more subtle elements of rock n'roll. Wearing a vintage Pendleton shirt, say, with jeans and Weejuns will get you admission to most places.
To me, John is New York hip, Jeff the Yale campus, Ken maybe California Cool.
We chat easily: about Elvis, places abroad we've been to or would like to try out, about the decline of J.Press.
He's quiet and thoughtful. Definitely a gentleman of the old school.
He's also Top Mod.
When I met him he wanted to talk about cars. I'll bet he'd be pleased to hear this:

Miniscule, R&B. Only pulling your leg. No hair, round glasses and smile is Jeff. Cool bugger is The Man.
Who's that one that sits by the till? He seems to know a thing or two.

anyways the mans is cool as a cucumber - friendly as a jeff
Can someone post that picture... JS with two of his men, wearing lots of navy - was it from an article in some paper?

A pair of shoulder pads being discarded.
Hmmokay. Vivienne Westwood eat your heart out. They're huge.
Breast implants being clashed together during Happy Hour at the plastic surgeons?
And back to observations on the man, please...
Sorry.
Ken's great.
How about a role call of all the rest though? Maybe on another thread?
We all know the Ivy Trinity of 2 Russell Street, but then there's all the other guys who'd names I've never learned.
- I was talking to Mrs. Jim & she reckons that Mr. Gall served her once whilst I had a face like chopped liver.
The Ivy had Mr. Lally & Ian but also a Spanish Guy who'd left just before me due to bad eyes & another Saturday Boy who worked far more than I did who was learning the Bass & who was into U2 & Simple Minds. Fleetwood Mac also featured for him too. Ian & John Had bought him a packet of Johnnys which he used to carry around & every so often they'd check if he'd used any of them. He never had.
I rather liked him.
Once when I went out for Kebabs I couldn't get the fags he wanted (some 'Femmy' brand) & so I bought him something just one step up more blokey & taught him to punch holes in the filter with a pin to make them milder. He was a nice guy, some student I'd reckon. Did he go before Mr. Gall came along?
