A serious thanks for the link. That has to be one of the best blogs I've ever read. I am assuming that this is from brother The Look, no?

Re: The 'Ivy-Style' Blog RIP -

Well, it swings it all back solidly into the American camp - which is as it should be - but not, I suspect, the America of 2009: that would certainly be hoping for too much.  It demonstrates, however, just how much homework there is to be done, and reiterates the fact that, once embarked upon, the research is pretty much never-ending (and cruelly addictive into the bargain).  It is only by understanding the past that we can truly live in the present and begin planning for the future.  But, most probably, some compromises will have to be made (as they have been in Anglo Ivy in the past) which risks sacrificing the purity.  I'm not sure about a suit and sneakers.  Woody Allen might have pulled it off in a non-campus ITK sense, but I think now, in England, it would be misplaced.  Perhaps better safe than sorry?

This thread has a joke title but this is IT as far as I'm concerned.

Hats off to The Look.

Yeah. I saw that linked over on Andy this morning. It's a great site, and a good idea. Basically just weeding out the BS from the "fora" and the blogs as it relates to the actual history. I saw nods of the cap to a few of our fellow travelers. In fact I thought it might be D&F's site until I decided it was too creepy to thank himself if he was going incognito. Heh

Like they say over on The Wardrobe - Historical research is its own reward (or somesuch).

What I like is the absence of silly, irritating journalistic spin here. Nobody is churning out ill-informed theories or giving anything newly made up names & rules. It makes a welcome change online to be honest.

The site is there to inspire - It's up to you then to use the history of our style to help to inform your choices today.

Here' s a useful blog, finally.  A way to sort of gather all the good work many have done -- assemble it together in one place.  None of the Phony and Shill-like editorial.

This is such a great blog! No Bullshit, no lifestyle journalism, just the facts, and you give your sources! Good work!

Congratulations The Look on an excellent site. Having worked in advertising for the best part of 30 years it's great to see the old ads. I began life in newspapers doing that style of illustration and hand lettering, it's a great lost art. Well done chum!

Please don't bury Ivy-Style yet. I am given to understand that they will soon have a guest post by a most distinguished writer.

And one more thing: This "Ivy League Look" blog would really be helpful if I could hop in my magic time machine and go shopping in 1962.  But since I can't I'm having a hard time seeing what the big deal is.

A jealous blogger

Re: The 'Ivy-Style' Blog RIP -

The big deal especially around these parts is that so many blogs get caught up in definitions or just so stories about the clothing items or the look. Worse than that, are those writers who prattle about their tedious lives and try to assign freshman level philosophical concepts to their lives and clothing choices. Even the blogs that have good posts have "look at me" parts that you have to kind of skip through. The Look blog is just  a collection of historical documents and if you like the clothes and the style then what more could you ask for. It also serves an important function in debunking the myth making which goes on every forum.  Simply, it's "all killer, no filler."
