Non-Ivy, but a touch Italian moddy, they've made some pretty odd stuff in the past, but a local factory shop was doing some quite acceptable solid knitwear a few years ago. I once wore quite a nice pale blue, patterned cardigan around Puglia in October (tends not to be too chilly that far south, even in the evenings) with chinos and Italian-made Florsheim desert boots. Didn't the geezers who went in for Farah slacks and Gucci loafers fancy it a bit? It was but a moment for me, but I still see bits in charity shops; usually hideous IMO.
Gabicci tends tae be either quite tasty gear (a rare sighting) or, as you point oot as is usually the case, utterly hideous so as to give ye the boak.
Doesnae seem tae be any middle ground where ye find stuff that's merely "okay".

I have to admit I have a number of Gabicci cardigans with the fake suede detailing; I have Duffer versions too. At one point I was obsessed with these and their Yardie stylings......
Still like 'em but don't wear them.
Ah, glad you touched on the Yardie connection there, Fred: good man. Gregory Isaacs chic.
Exactly, Gregory Isaacs. You were a Duffer fan back in the day, right?
Yes. Where I was living at the time Duffer was hard to get and expensive; like Timberland boots. I remember paying about £110-20 for a pair, about twenty years ago. 'Red Or Dead' was also quite interesting. I see Duffer now, though, in charity shops (not often).
I dig the suedey ones, too...
Recall a thread about Gabicci on modcult. Too lazy to search for this at the moment... I also recall a thread over there where some kid wanted a "Marriott Smedley" and he got pointed towards the Gabicci retro range and this whole thread ended up in someone questioning the kid's authenticity and in banter about emulating idols, individualism and whatnot... the usual modcult stuff...
I still like the Duffer/Gabicci cardigans but find them a bit "young" for someone my age (early 40s). Maybe not....
I remember Paul Simonon wearing a lot of this stuff in the late 80s early 90s. Looked good on him.
i baught a limited edition Gabicc a few months back from stuarts in sheps bush french navy colour with seudey patch pockets and collar detail, buttons to the top... looks ace with some slim chinos and black tasseled Weejies (from Ken ) ...mod/ soul boy stylie ?

Ah Gabicci.....actually an english firm based in London, now owned by the bloke who owned Joe Blogg's (well it was at one time, not sure if he still owns it?)
Love the Gabicci. I have a few now, and had a few over the years. Agreed a lot of their stuff is hideous, very "old man" style......but there are some gems to be had. I picked up a lovely cream button through, collared cardie with contrasting black collar and placket...just waiting for an improvement in the weather to sport it!
Not sure I get all this for the young ones stuff.......I don't believe in dressing too young, but with the right gear these so called lounder ones can still look good.

Alright, I may just have to break them out......actually almost wore one last night. That Italian one (non Gabicci) on Yoox looks really nice. Shame they only have 36 and 38. Anyone know the manufacturer? Never heard of them.....
I have quite a lot of Gabicci stuff that I bought from an old department store that catered to the "older gent". For me it's always had a goodfellas, wise guy feel to the style which I love. Interesting to see it in the younger trendier stores now costing four times as much.
I also must agree with the good Professor that as long as it's worn tastefully and well styled, the louder styles can still look great on a more mature cat!
The main drawback I find is the bloody flappy collars!
