Ivy For Everyone!

- No, really.

Different takes, different slants, the whole shebang.

Ivy seen from Holland will be different from the same style seen from London.  Where's the problem with that?

How could it not be?

Online America is doing its "Preppy" thing on the whole even though they call it "Trad". Fine by me. As long as they don't think its Ivy then let 'em fill their boots.

Lets drop this idea that agreeing over everything is good. It isn't. Its either false or ill-informed.

This place is unique in that we mix different POVs & relish the clash of perspectives. And I love that.

So deal with it. The route to world peace isn't in agreement. It's in working with the disagreements that you come across in a positive way.

- Mr. Nobel, I'm ready for my close up.  wink

Re: Ivy For Everyone!

Whenever I agree, I agree, and when I don't, I disagree. Simple as that.

I'm not going to log on here with the intention to disagree on everything, that would be a pose.

Basically, I disagree with your point that agreement leads to nothing. I've said it before: I think it's fantastic to find some kindred spirits over here and to be able to agree on stuff no one in my direct offline environment can relate to.

And here we go again - you lured me into yet another tired old Russellesque meta-discussion. I'd much rather talk about styles and stuff.

/\ Disagreement is fine if people can still be empathic to the other persons point of view, even if they don't hold it. But when people start to shout down others just coz they think they are right or because they can. Well then its a bit crap!

Jim, I don't think a lot of people on here want to be happy clappy and in agreement about everything. I just think they wanna work it through in a more informed way, and I include myself in that category.

Re: Ivy For Everyone!

Not a fan of discussions about discussions. University left me with that feeling, can't help it. OK one more thing then - I agree (can I do that please?) that disagreement provided for some of the best threads.

But the best moments I've had on here were when I recognized certain people's take on all this. When I read Jesmond's almost poetic remarks on the bliss of small-rib-on-big-rib patterns in the most pared down of outfits, it blew my mind in agreement. Just one example. Russell had me cheering behind my lappy as well, on the scarce moments he talked style. wink

But "Russell" was only the architect of all this - Far more than he was ever anything else.

He built the frame for the picture. Not much more.

He's dead now anyway. As will "Jim" be, by tomorrow.
