is that real ivy?
It's a winter weight checked wool 'Harrington'.
And here's Rodney Harrington from Peyton Place:

But is it "Ivy"?
Here it is:

It's pretty horrible, isn't it?
Try this then:

How many out of ten?
Love the jacket. Not so keen on the horribly smug, camp gent modelling though...
i think it's awful how they photoshopped him onto that shitty background.
Oh dear. Been trying to get over a bad cold recently (Ivy Swine Flu, anyone?) but the pics of that 'Harrington' (a "Horriblington?") and that guy's sinister grinning mug has set me right back! The cord jacket could well be a good looking item in a different context. I'll give it a 6. But that Baracuta? Oh no. You can imagine some designer or marketing man sitting in his office wondering how to, ahem, 'update' and bring new life to a classic all the while completely missing the very reason why it still IS regarded as a classic i.e. it's a great, understated design that has changed very little from its inception. I'll give it a zero. This is coming from someone who still has issues over Baracuta not re-introducing proper metal zips for its G9 anniversary editions!

I'm all for updating a classic item but I tend to stress the fact it has to be done in an ever so slightly manner in order to avoid running the risk of missing the point entirely. As a matter of fact it's more often a case of miss than hit when we're talking any such attempt really. In short : it needs to be done in a clever and informed way. So, the Harrington IMHO looks way off the mark, the cord jacket I like. The model isn't important to me because he's subordinate to what the label wants to present. As always this thing is about context more than anything....
