Cheapest I've ever seen.
100% Wool.
A very dark Blue with WHITE (Not Cream 'ticks')... Still a good sweater for the price. Has The Look.
Not tried the Green one, but I bought the Blue & have no complaints about it.
This one is £35, usually they are £70-ish over here.
Nice helpful company too - Danny or Mohib in the office especially.

('Balmoral Cable' also good - The Green one is Blue/Green in real life, kinda petrol-ish. A nice shade - but not all that Green.)
How is the Shetland situation in Paris?
'Minet' is long gone, but have you found any Ivy or Ivy-esq outlets still going?
My Minet guy just imports or waits for U.S. shopping trips to roll 'round. I'm sure there must be at least a little Ivy left somewhere though, considering it was once so big over there.
Any thoughts?
The Huntsman has a very 'Barbour' look to me. Might be worth checking them out.
The ribbed version always looks like an Armed forces jumper to me - Olive Green for the Army & Airforce blue for... the RAF (surprise!). They have a sort of thick cotton shoulder patch though. Almost canvas-like, as I recall.
Isn't this style based on the LL Bean 'Commando' Sweater anyway, which Bean 'invented' for the British Army in WWII?
I THINK that's the story...
I think I like the ribbed version best. It ought to be a slightly 'chunky' jumper in my opinion. Nothing too smooth.
Yes, I'm thinking of the forces jumpers. IIRC the choulder patches were some kind of nylon or synthetic substance.
This is pretty close -- made in Scotland too!:

Probably not Scottish but extremely cheap and almost exactly what I'm after:

This is very good too, though the epaulettes may be a bit too authentic. Do surplus places sell new or used clothing? Never bought fromone before:

Spoilt for choice!
I really like the Barbour & the Bean. The Bean is probably from China.
Army Surplus will be new & unused usually, think of it like 'Overstocks'. It will be authentic but the quality will not be of civillian standard.
It all depends what you want...
For a REAL forces jumper go Army Surplus. The real deal.
For Rugged but quality go Barbour.
For inexpensive and quality go Bean. Less chunky than Barbour so it will fit under more jackets if you so wish.
I note that the surplus is listed as "Grade 1", which a corner of the website describes as "Issued and used but is still in good condition". I think I'll keep to Bean or Barbour then -- I understand that Salisbury Plain doesn't come out too easily.

I think Shetlands Direct are really focused on wholesale, not retail.
Their warehouse is out on the Western Isles. Not much passing trade there.
I'm sure that the Shetlands I scored in Edinburgh not too long ago were their's - Purely based on the price & the colours.
