Cheers AQG. I'm not trying to be snotty Jesmond because I love your stuff and you seem to be a really cool guy. This Paddy could be the King of Jazz for all I know, hopefully he may stick around and blow us all away. I really don't want to be disrespectful, I mean, i'm only a new boy so what do I know?
Erm ... PADDY comes across as Bomber with a Spellcheck. Knock the Americans all you like, and I agree that it is pretty shameful the extent to which the US neglects its own wonderful cultural contributions (ie. all the great music of the 20th century, the democratic style of the Ivy Look, cinema etc) the Americans who post here generally come across as rather more articulate, educated chaps than some of the aggressive numbskulls this 'sacred isle' has produced. John Simons himself has always told me that nobody could ever touch the style and cool of a well-dressed American in the early 60s when he first went over there - they were like Gods. He has also always found them wonderfully straightforward and honest in business and I know that he still feels an attachment to and affection for the US. The London-centric thing gets to me a bit as well. As a provincial Brit myself I felt the pull of the Capital with its promise of freedom and possibility, but in my opinion the most clueless Londoners are the ones born there, the Robert Elms of this world, who are always banging on about what a fabulous place it is. The best Londoners are the ones who come here, value it, and reinvent it. Also, for all the boasting about how cool Londoners are, well I've just been to Italy - Bologna and Florence - for a few days, and I saw there more well-dressed men (most of them over 60) who nonchalantly dressed with more elegance and style than anyone I've ever seen in London, whether they shop in J.Simons or not.
GG
Blimey, this thread goes on.
Down with Paddy - He used to put me in skips!
To be fair, he's alright. Taught me a lot and isn't really an Internet guy. I think his comments are just about the American posters he's read online - Which means he's talking about the bulk of them & the bulk of them don't post here.
Tidy this up, Pad?

Alright.
Pad is going to write for Alex Roest. End of story.
His comments were only about the Internet and he says that very few love America and Americans more than him. He's just unimpressed with the level of conversation he has read on the Net.
For my part he has been a mentor and I see a lot of the "Ian Strachan" attitude in him.
Russell, don't tell Paddy where I live unless he's a bit of a wimp, in which case I'll see him outside J.S's Saturday afternoon.
By the way Jesmond, you ARE a cool guy and thank you very much, I appreciate your comments.
"ripped into", "culture clash".... tut tut.
JS's website is charming and Paddy's a good un. One Love.
Click it, lick it, fuck it or suck it, just don't abuse the selfless love that goes into it. It's my orange juice, as Quincy said of 'Kind of Blue'.
Apologies, Adam. Most unfit for your young ears, I'm sure.
Just one last thing... Where do I get to read Paddy's stuff?
I think he'll come across better there - Horses for courses, as I say.
Life on the esteemed fora isn't for everyone, but people do stay in touch behind the scenes like Richmond Hill & JJ, etc.
T'would be good to get some older faces on here in my 'umble opinion. We indulge the youngsters rather well I think so it wouldn't kill us to reach out to "Old Ivy Curmudgeons"
What we need is an Uncle Bulgaria figure to make our happy family complete...

(Aljazz & Chris_H are both far too lively for this role!)
Boyer plays the old fart & gets love, why shouldn't somebody else?
