The American contribution...

This goes much deeper than the natural shoulder or 'brogues around the back'.

This is the olive branch.

We owe you so much.

Just reading - once again - about the GIs in Britain, awaiting the Second Front in Europe.

We'll always be brothers.

The olive drab branch, you mean.

Otter : Take it easy, I'm pre-law.
Boon : I thought you were pre-med.
Otter : What's the difference?

Not very often straight.  More often bent.  But on this particular occasion.

Re: The American contribution...

We wouldn't have this forum if it wasn't for those olive clad men on the beaches over half a century ago. Of course they brought us freedom but that's not what I mean here. America shaped our way of thinking, behaving, dressing. I'm speaking for the Europeans here - even now, we are still exponents of this huge post WW II American cultural influence. That's how it appears to me from my helicopter. On the ground, it's far more complex, fantastically so, and worthy of a book or two.
