What do y'all think of ancient madder ties. I've avoided them forever. Never liked them.
But I started to think they might not be so made with say, a grey herringbone tweed and a blue oxford button-down. What say ye?
Perfect combo - go for it!
I love the slight nap they have and the murky nature of their colours.
Very 'Trad' in my book.
WHo even makes them anymore?
I only know of John Comfort and you have to ask for them specially. Im almost certain David Evans was bought, they were the madder dyer par excellence.
I dont think the English even want them anymore because they are also caught up in the whole woven mania.
They are a nice look but almost forgotten like Challis tie.
Sounds a very noble project indeed indeed.
Wow, Mullberrywood, the only thing left to explore is getting Harrisons of Edinburgh to reissue their 100% cashmere necktie book again. The colors are incredible. But I have to say youre certainly doing a lot to preserve some very rich, traditional items.
If I recall correctly, I paid more than $100 but less than $200 for a tie from that book.
It must be a different fabric that we are talking about.
The Harrisons millionaire cashmere sells for $66o per ( 60") yard. So it money would be lost on a $150 tie......
After Film Noir Buff's suggestion I immediately gave them a call and they told me about the $400 retail tie price from a few years ago.
"I thought they were withdrawn because of a lack of interest in that sort of tie,"
Perhaps, the $150 price was the same cashmere at a lowered price to sell them? I don't know, just a guess.

I will take a look at their colors. Interestingly the US agent will sell as little as 1/8th of a yard to tailors who need just a little to finish a project.

Oh well. It's a damned good thing i bought a half a dozen way back when. I will be extra careful with them going forward.
