I have a scanned copy from Blighty but I don't think that the review is online yet! I must say that I was amazed to receive it out of the blue and I add it to the Esquire and Maxim review clippings...!! I suppose that I could post it but I am unsure of theimage posting process here - I did manage one but have forgotten.

I suppose 'misadventure' or 'mischance' - but nothing as colourful as serendipity but this reminds me of Goldfinger saying to Bond something like: "once is happenstance; twice is coincidence but the third time it's enemy action."
FNB - you have completely stumped me there I have to say!

I like 'Kismet' but not KISS
^ If it's anything like the author, it's probably a tool of the trade.
I swear anyone with an eye can read the whole book in a bookstore in 5 minutes, and I'm speaking as a slower reader. Nothing interesting except some English brand names dropping.
Despite my earlier comments, I recommend this book. It falls into the 'personal' category along with Russell Smith's book on style and those are the only two books in the category. I would like to see more contributions published, actually, as I think sometimes we can learn more from looking at style from one person's viewpoint more than we can from a victorian etiquette agony-aunt book dressed up as a rulebook on style (cough Flusser cough cough).
