Re: Back To The Sack!

Most people are simply not clothing literate, IMO. A suit is a suit.

But if you can 'read' clothes then I would suggest that in certain places a Sack would make a nicely subtle change from the cut of all the other suits on show.

Re: Back To The Sack!

Evening.

A love of late 50s/early 60s Jazz and modernist leanings led me here and, having put me bags down, I never want to move house again.

Been quietly observing (and learning)...and would welcome some recommendations for getting a sack suit made (in Blighty)

Sounds good. My backside is currently perched on a Jacobsen 'Grand Prix' chair. 1970's Fritz Hansen in a (now) knackered black laquer finish. Though the on set of backache will prompt a move pretty soon!

This suit is probably the best silhouette and certainly for Americans. The natural shoulder is still deep in the memory. Someone smart needs to start a factory and get Corvato to design sack suits before its too late!

Re: Back To The Sack!

I`ve gone off the bloke in Norwich I was talking to. He would use a tailor in Essex, which is fair enough, to copy my BB sack BUT the extras I wanted, such as a hooked vent, higher button stance etc., would have to be discussed over the `phone AND there wouldn`t be a fitting. I am not prepared to take the risk.

Subsequently, I`ve talked to Chris Rocco in Kentish Town in North London and he didn`t turn a hair when I explained what I wanted. There`s a bonus in that he used to be a jazz trumpeter, playing at the Assembly House in Kentish Town, for those who remember its jazz days.

I`ve also fantasised about getting a jacket made by Paul Winston which would not be as expensive as you might think until you factor in two trips to NY. Depending on material it would be $1200-1500. His solution to the travelling is to send him a jacket to copy, which is something to think about.

I`m currently still hoping that something might come up on the vintage front but my size, 36S, very rarely appears which is why I`ve been looking into MTM.

Re: Back To The Sack!

I went to a local tailor.  He oozed and smarmed and said what a joy it would be to etc., quoted me a price of £650 and tok my details.  That's four years ago and I still haven't had the 'phone call.  Send a treasured jacket across the Atlantic?  Whoa!!

Re: Back To The Sack!

Has anyone used Luke's (Barking road)? Not that they have the most nautral shoulders anyway, but I've been trying to guess who Gilbert and George are using now David London (Hackney road) has upped sticks.
