Hi all,
I was think about his on my way to work this morning and wonder WHAT IVY ITEM DON'T YOU LIKE.
I'm not talking about Ivy as a whole or Youth Cult (you all know how i feel about this already)but about single items that you don't like.
also again WHAT IS PURE IVY? it seem that youth culture who take items of Ivy are slagged off so when has it ever been pure.
My Poison IVY is Bow ties (Sorry Patrick.....but saying that,Patrick is the only person i've seen that wear a bow ties and look good)
Back to work,
Lewis

Weejuns, in all their plasticized, made in the dominican republic glory. They do nothing for me. Sorry to say.
Weejuns and loafers full stop. Love looking at them as "objects", just not on my feet.
Bright white Levi's, or pants in general. Stone? OK - but that's as light as I get.
Seersucker.
Patch Madras.
Trahseez with little animals sewn onto the legs.
Those ridiculous waistcoats in the Andover shop - patch tweed - clashing with jacket, shirt and tie really over-egging the pudding. British equivalent are those ridiculous red waistcoats mein host types wear. Really fancy silk waistcoats that aristos wear are different because they are worn with plain jackets and not mainstream anyway.
Tartan jackets
Tartan trahseez
1966, i'm wiling to agree on white levis / trous. probably would wear them if i was 20 years yonger + 20 kilos thinner than i now am though.
Must say, madras jackets and patch madras shirts would be a no no for me as well though i have seen them worn in a way that pleases the eye.
as for shorts, i don't think those madras shorts look that bad really especially as the chap is young. would look very bad on me or any fat git in his forties though.
oh yes, wouldn't wear a seersucker jacket either. i just bought a ss seersucker shirt though and i'm eagerly waiting for the weather to become warmer so i can go out and play with the shirt on.
Two for one.
The Andover Shop are proud to present the worst of American and British styling at considerable cost to your pocket:-

(British waistcoat would not have shiny buttons though)
I'm puzzled by the lack of love for seersucker as a suiting fabric. It's one of the cornerstones.
I agree with many that the patchwork concept is exceedingly ugly and unfathomable when single swathes of madras or tweed can be so beautiful.
Yes, some of the Andover (and Press) stuff looks plain bonkers to me. Some of it, were I to be seen dead in it, might bring a sour smile to my wife's lips, but that's no reason to go forking out for it in the first place. I like seersucker, particularly for a shirt, though I can understand why some might have reservations when it comes to suits because, like some Madras, it hovers on that uncomfortable borderline between American cool and jaw-dropping awfulness. Let's face it, there's American and there's American, and I could never wear a bow tie, anything Reyn Spooner-ish or, as Kingstonian says, with little animals on it. Twee or what? Tartan is also difficult - very. I tend to favour an exceptionally conservative look on the whole: dark suits, even if darted; striped repp ties; pale blue or white or university stripe shirts, dark socks, black or brown shoes. Republican lawyer on his way to court house somewhere in New Hampshire. Mind you, Staceyboy and I do like the 'off duty' look - astronaut and particularly golfer, in Robert Bruce and Brooks woollen trousers - and I will push my USAAF colonel look till my dying day.

LOL i'm the opposite, i hate any thin soled ones!
I dislike patch madras and believe critters are okay on belts and ties, but not on my pants.
But the line I absolutely will not cross is that of the tassel loafer.
Like Patrick I dislike the critters on pants or shorts but don't mind them on ties.
I also used to dislike knit ties, but the many fine examples sported in the pictures by those on the forum have made me change my mind on this item.
I would never buy Bass again. For loafers, I might have a search for old Sebago. Do Alden do a good loafer? Florsheim I similarly wouldn't bother with again. J.M. Weston are nice, but I wouldn't cross the street for Paraboot. English made Clarks' chukka boots are worth having, but not their Vietnamese-made dessies. If I had to make a choice of just one pair of shoes right now it would be a toss-up between AE and Jarman.
