Fly-fishing. This summer a friend with a boat and girlfriend on Long Island (not sure of the dynamics of this) is going to introduce me to saltwater fishing.

I also read a lot and spend entirely too much time watching DVDs of the world's worst movies (so you don't have to).

Regarding fly fishing, we were on a family reunion in Ballina Co. Mayo last year. A river runs through it. It is famous for fly fishing. Jack Charlton was a big fan. The brother said it was something he fancied taking up. When we asked the landlord, he said a permit was a couple of hundred Euro a day. Cheaper to have a round a Ballina golf club. Jack was known there too.

Another thing I really enjoy is mooching around in London and elsewhere. You are forever discovering things about the area. A pub in Clerkenwell that I started going to again, lead me to discover that the last remaining manufacturer of fairground organs is still in business in the area. Clerkenwell is Little Italy but some of the prominent delis and cafes are now closed. I just like getting a feel for the history of places.

I suppose the biggest passion for me has been sports -- as a participant, coach and spectator. I still coach high-school basketball locally. As for participation, I have played a lot of them: hockey, Girls Ball games, football, rugby, basketball. Now that I am old and breaking down, I restrict actual participation to touch-football in a "beer league" on Sunday mornings. I enjoy watching football, basketball and Girls Ball games -- I've pretty much lost interest in hockey lately.

As for drink, it's whiskeys of any and all varieties, though I have not had much exposure to bourbon. I like (mostly cheap) wine and I enjoy the occasional cigar, though I am no expert in either.

I am a voracious reader, and have a particular interest in political economy, history and philosophy.

I used to collect a lot of music, but those days are past now. Likewise my 3 guitars sit mostly dusty and unplayed in the basement. I'll play bass in a choir now and then for Mass.

I have a motorcyle that I hardly ever get to ride any more -- having two children under the age of 7 will do that, you know.

There are a few classic works on fly fishing, but my favourite  was ( and I can't remember the title) a MOTHER EARTH meets Richard Brautigan called something creek manifesto? It was in magazine size paperback format, direct to the point and a fun read.
But fly fishing is something best experienced, not read about.

Some great bourbon up there, Mr Rotten. Booker's at a wopping 57% is one of my all time favourites.  Don't rate Noah's Mill, too woody Guthrie for my taste.

If you dig small batch bourbon, you sure as the dancing outlaw, gonna' dig this:

I can understand that films are too loud. I often find that. Strange unexpected stereo/multichannel effects are annoying too. I also hate the r soles who start rustling in sweet packets during the quiet bits.

Re: So have people on this forum interests other than clothes ?

l'll make another confession............l haven't watched a single t.v commercial in over 15 years. The only advertsing l like is print advertising because l have much more control over what l view. l don't watch t.v advertsing because l don't like being preached to by loud intrusive/annoying voices...i'll make my own decisions. lf something needs to be advertised on t.v, it mustn't be all that.
