One of the great things about this forum - as in life - is being able to admit that you're wrong and change your tune a little, and some of us would like to acknowledge the absolute importance of New York City over London as the magnet for not just Ivy enthusiasts - it goes deeper than that - but lovers of vibrancy, freedom and the liberal spirit.
There is no intended slur here on California, Chicago, the South or anywhere else. We're simply stating facts: that New York has possessed the glamour, the fascination, the clubs, the clothing and record shops etc. that probably London has never come near to emulating. Small wonder that Ronnie Scott and John Dankworth were so eager to get there!
I only had to go into the nearest big town today to see a chick wearing an 'I LOVE NEW YORK' t-shirt.
Remember what Paddy said? No such thing as London Ivy. It was always New York.
But maybe before November 1963.
Uh-uh. Something ended then, right?
Wrong?
We're waiting to hear from you.
