I can't stand Russell street but I have come to know this other person called Jim, Thanks to him I have Brooks shirts on the rack and his Blue Note copy of a Fickle Sonance by Jackie Maclean in 1961 on my shelves. I've cut his hair, slept on his sofa and danced with his daughter. This forum wouldn't be here without him along Moose who planned the whole thing with him. Trad on Ask Andy was also pulled together by him with his mates like he did with the Ivy League posts on Modculture where I first met him.
Behind his back it's easier to talk about him because face to face he never shuts up!
Memories of him are him walking across the frozen canal in Stratford town center saying Don't tell me I can't walk on water! and then being charm it's self in Carluchio's across the road treating everyone to dinner.
Who else's got Russell stories to share?
He's mad but for all that he puts on a good show. Behind his back is the only way to talk about him!
Jarib.
Never met him, but I agree Jim's a top bloke. A gentleman and a scholar.
Don't get me started on this Russell Street character though. The megalomaniac twat.
russell used to send me the best gay porn, miss that
To be honest-I prefer Russell to Jim.
Jim`s OK- but has a puritanical streak and will only supply me with very "vanilla" porn links.
The Stuff uncle Russ suplies me with - pure sordidnes-real dynamite.
Has Russell died? Is this his lifetime achievement award? Well here goes... Russell found me abandoned as a baby in a skip in Old Compton Street one frosty January morn. He took me home, fed me, clad me in the finest Brooks garb and raised me as his own.
At the age of eight he tought me to pick the pockets of rich Ivy gentlemens and bring back the proceeds to his flat. I could take the brogues off a toff's feet and the knitted tie from round his neck without him even flinching. Cor blimey, love a duck, I owes him everything I does. (Wasn't keen on the porn though... I likes the ladies, I does!)
The "quick one" in the thread title took on a whole new meaning.
he also taught me about teabagging - i didnt know uncle russ is a republican
I'm a fool to join in with this. Here are some old stories I remembered for Ian Strachan's raincoat:-
1. WE are in the Colehern (a pub) one Christmas and our mate Steve grabs Jimmy & sticks his tongue down his throat right in front of the bar as a wind up. Happy christmas he says. Jimmy just stands there, nods at Steve, licks his lips and says "chicken curry eh? A glass of white wine please."
2. Jimmy is caught short in Soho late one night and resorts to pissing up a wall in an ally just as a local Tom walks past. "Whatever must you think of me?" pipes up Jimmy in that voice of his. A dirty fucking bastard comes the answer. Now any normal person would have stopped there but Jimmy carries on pissing away calling out over his shoulder "Yes I agree youre not seeing me at my best just now and I do apologise. Now where can I wash my hands?"
There are worse stories too. JJ We have yet to meet however Jimmy speaks very highly of you learning all you can about IL. Good luck and enjoy it.
I will think twice if I ever have a "drink" with Jim.
Priceless anecdotes, good to see you here sir.

Can anybody who likes a laugh improve on it?
PADDY - Thank you for the pm. Jim talks of you all the time and so for me it's a big deal to know you.

This is it before it gets deleted
"Russell Street" the Internet troll dates back to 2004 on the "Ask Andy About Clothes" Internet forum. There "he" manipulated what was to become American Trad to such a point that the term is now listed on Wikipedia and appears on various Internet blogs, forums and message boards like "Style Forum", "The Curriculum" and "Ivy-Style" amongst many others.
"Russell Street" was originally 4 people working together to promote the Ivy League style of American dress in the face of widespread misinformation on the American Internet menswear message boards.
From "Ask Andy About Clothes" "Russell Street" moved to the "Film Noir Buff Style Forum" after engineering the serial bannings of himself under various names from "Ask Andy About Clothes" to raise his profile.
"Russell Street" was then to go on to manipulate the author of the "Dandyism.com" blog into producing an Ivy style blog called "Ivy-Style.Com" Once he had done that he severed all links with it to let it sink or swim by itself.
The troll persona is now reduced to one person, Jim, after the break up of the original trolling crew in the early part of 2009.
Although Internet trolling is reprehensible and an undoubted blight on the Internet, "Russell Street" is, I believe, worthy of inclusion on Wikipedia as an element of contemporary Internet culture as "he" has been so influential and has in fact never done anything but good, raising the profile of the Ivy League style of dress and expanding the debate of the subject to a terrific extent.
"Russell Street" also appears on the "J. Simons" website writing about his experiences of that celebrated London Shop:-

This about to get the boot. Can anybody please give it a quick fix? The words like Trad etc need to link to the other Wiki pages to wed it in there.
Are we bloody well sure JJ isn't Just Jim having a game with us? I wouldn't put it past the cheeky little bugger.
I used to post here then started pming instead, I just thought I'd have a laugh while old Jim's away.
