When?

"Here at the age of thirty-nine I began to be old..."

(Brideshead Revisited, 1944. Charles Ryder echos Evelyn Waugh's feeings as time goes by...)

39 Seems young today.

But there is a time when one enters one's seniority.

If you've pased that point, when was it that you decided?

If you have it all to come, at what age are you imagining that that feeling of seniority will descend upon you?

As an abstract concept I quite enjoy the positive aspects of seniority. A bonus of the Ivy style is that it is youthful for the older man and all grown up & serious for the younger man...

Do other styles of dress age quite as well?

Did you, or are you anticipating having to, slightly change your personal style to accomodate the passing years?

Could be an intersting thread...

Miles.

Re: When?

'Old' is usually somebody else's label.
I am, however, a great believer in being 'older'. It's all relative anyway...
Little things change... I'll wear Chinos or Cords, but not Jeans now.
T shirts I'll now just wear under button-downs, but not by themselves.
The range of colours I wear has shrunk - or to be more accurate I probably still wear the same colours but in softer shades/tones.
One or two perfect wardrobe items now seem more important to me than a great volume of stuff...

Nothing 'Fogey' going on here, I still dislike the faux-old-man pose. But as time passes by it's nice to be aware of the fact and to keep your style... stylish.

Maybe I'm in an autumn mood today...
