Just saw this on the 'Trad' forum...
It's McNairy's pal 'ACL' / Micky Williams plugging his stuff:

So what do you think?

Looks like a bad quality version of the Ol' Girls version of the drop tassel Weejun.
I've seen worst and cheaper looking shoes then them.
right let calm down
if your going to fight take it out side
the inside-out leather with the printing is a total rip-off of what band of outsiders has been doing with their sperry collection...and the blue suede tassel looks just like the boo/sperry model:
http://www.highsnobiety.com/news/2009/03/13/band-of-outsiders-x-sperry-topsider-deconstructed-boatshoe-tassel-loafer/
that said, the suede beefrolls look great albeit out of my price range.
Both Brooks & Sebago (but Brooks was Sebago for Brooks) did a drop tassel loafer in the style above, but with a bit more BEEF. And the BEEF added a lot.
Bass did theirs as above for the Girlies, and a tassel on a bar with side lacing for the chaps. The above looks to me like a big girl's shoe, but only because I remember the Bass back catalogue...
- McNairy will also know the Bass back catalogue too and will be doing the above for his own reasons.
- Actually - Maybe McNairy has researched all this back before my time (and therefore well before his too) and is presenting us with some effete slip-on from the 50's?
Maybe?
what about Mark McNairy's Red Brick Soul stuff?
really really dug everything in that collection!
... Or Tradder, because I wouldn't use the word 'Trad'...
Will the fun ever end?
Interesting in some respects. The Weejun with the boat sole is a semi good idea: the good aspect being that the upper looks exactly like the classic Weejuns we all remember. A perfect illustration of the fact that it's not the case that they 'can't make 'em like they used to'; they just can't be bothered.
Tassel on a bar from Bass? Are you sure Russell? The gents' tassel was pretty much as above, but with I think one more stitch to the sides.
The reverse cordovan is just a fucking insult: what kind of ass would wear them?
Also is there some stylistic spin on the dyeing of the leathers or are they merely badly tanned? I haven't read the blurb yet.
I see what you mean regarding the 'bar' Russell: the men's model had a wider expanse of 'lace' showing on the front and was also laced in and out of the collar.
have to say i don't like them , i honestly can't see any point to them at all
This is an entirely trend-based product, obscenely marked up.
I like the classic Weejun, I've been looking for exactly that profile forever.
I also kind of like that blucher moc.
The silly ones are just in there to draw attention, don't worry about them.
I think we have mentioned the concept of "the look where you can find it" in numerous threads. Brownshoe is right here. No matter what the brand, or the motivation of the makers, if it fits into "the look" or your look it becomes something entirely different. Whether the price point is offensive or not is up to the individual. I won't buy name brand corn flakes but spends thousands a year on movies and books. All depends on your priorities. If the company can sell some of those monstrosities at those prices, more power to them.
Could be. That would make sense. Or it's Mr. McN. being 'creative'...
