Who's doing what?
All this French talk has got me wanting Moules.

well i'm on 2 weeks hols with my kids at the moment so one of them is going out with her friends and me and the other one are going to St Andrews for lunch
Well, it won't be moules today but it will be in just over a week's time as the family and I head off for St. Servan. Salt beef and horseradish a la Strachan.
Changed my mind - I want a kebab now! (... all this Ivy Shop talk)
I'm off to the pub in 5 minutes time with one of the ladies who work on reception. Whisky and soda I think. Probably skip food and have something nice this evening.

Salt beef beigel (no mustard) from Brick Lane Beigel Bake (the further one, not the yellow one, obviously).
Or the same (with a side order of fries and a coke) from Gaby's on Charring Cross Road.
All-time favourite food: the humble cheese and onion sandwich. Never mind what little Marc Feld said, it's the perfect wonder food. Medium moist triangles, cheddar or Red Leicester, red onion. Lovely.
I goggle with amazement at what my daughter dishes up... mashed potato with mustard in it? I feel like Peter Kay sometimes...
Sometimes we take a trip down memory lane. Tea with my mother-in-law: thinly cut slices of bread and scrape, ham, limp lettuce, spring onions, salad cream, radishes ("Oh, Professor, you're so full of whimsy". "I'm always that way after eating radishes"). Tinned fruit and evaporated milk. Mr. Kipling. Tea.
My daughter talks about 'home made chips'. Very middle class.
Anyone still drink Tizer?
I wish I hadn't looked at this.....I just had an egg and cress sandwich!

I once read that book by Keith Moon's driver and learned that 'a kipper feast' was another name for fanny licking...
Dear me!
It's true, is that.
When I work at home I have started having lunch in Korean places in New Malden -the largest ex-pat Korean centre in the world.
It is as cheap as a caff. Different to Chinese, Japanaese, Thai or Vietnamese.
Koreans are great. Hard-working, quiet, God-fearing types who cause no trouble. The local Methodist vicar is Korean too. He said 'Hello' when I walked through his car park as a short cut - even though I am not one of his congregation. Used to be a very tall elegant korean woman on my train and then Waterloo City line - always reading her bible.
^ Lots of starters, side dishes in marinade.
I like starters and being able to sample stuff. I like the Israeli food in Venice. They bring you about a dozen different dishes, including potato latkes. Makes a nice change from the piss poor pasta and pizza they serve up near the Rialto market. Speaking of which, there's a stall inside that serves German food. Cheap and cheerful.
