I'm wearing my Cords & Chinos slightly short & without cuffs this Fall and am playing with the break & the gap between Cordo loafer & trouser bottom (I want to show a little more Argyle than previously this season).
How short can I go before I look retarded?
I think the difference between hipster and inbred could be as little as 1/8".
Thoughts?
Today I'm sporting a 1/2 " gap twixt Cord & Weejun. If I go to a 1" gap will I look as though I drool?
Serious answers only please. No time wasters.
Miles.

Terry had a good break.
Jerry went a tad short IMO.
The Charlie D. break is THE break.
John Simons does a good break too...
The trick is to just skim the shoe I think or to slightly hover above it.
Looking back over old film stills etc. some trousers, especially casual ones, were worn very short back in the day (50s/60s). Hard to pull that look off now I think. There is also some kind of golden ratio to shortness of trouser and width of trouser bottom - The narrower the trouser the shorter you can go. Wide & short looks... wrong.
Thanks for the seriousness of your answer & for not wasting time. More pyramids please!

Some of the "short" breaks or no-breaks get a little silly though, don't you think?
I think that standing still the hem should just touch the loafer where the 'tongue' attaches. You can still see sock aroudn the edges and certainly when you move. I've been wearing cuffed jeans a couple of times a week with loafers and this gives me a chance to adjust the length as I see fit and see where I like it. It's a fun experiment.
I like a good break. Thats just me though. Just as I generally like cuffs.
