Here's a gem. Reminds of that time that LL Boy said the bespoke brotherhood is a small one and they all post at the mausoleum. Also, it's good to see Vox has been thinking about color and fabrics...finally.

This thread is a gold mine.

Dopey touches on something important. Some people approach buying a suit as a lifestyle choice. Dormeuil's marketing and their books lead these men to believe the fabric is too avant garde while the Lesser books reek of leather arm chairs and scotch. There's that 1980s gentleman's club lifestyle they aspire to. Although there is a bit of truth that when a company has both conservative and hip offerings it confuses their customer base about what the company represents.
Now, H. Lesser makes some fine cloth but it isn't for everyone. This doesn't move much in NYC, I would imagine because most of the actual vs virtual bespoke clients are older and want to look younger, especially when their significant others are half their ages.
Bear in mind most of these people know nothing about gauging cloth quality except by the curious method of rubbing a bit of cloth between their fingers which is akin to throwing swan bones into a pile to divine your future.

See, now here again, Vox is equating his own opinion with what everyone else thinks. Maybe in London those stripes are associated with bankers but on the East Coast, bankers are not associated with bold stripes. As a matter of fact, bankers, or finance doods, wear solids here both for their website photos and for media appearances. It's mostly the media themselves ( and some politicians and academics) who wear the bold stripes which is why they've escaped scorn here, financial meltdown not withstanding.
Here's a strong opinion
