Anyone Understand The Fedora Lounge Philosophy?

I know they are hat enthusiasts.

What I do not understand, from looking at the photos on the site is their idea that -below the head - anything goes.

So you will get a photo with a detailed description of some hat or other, where it was bought etc. but the subject may be wearing cargo shorts and a tee shirt in the same picture.

I am not sure if the idea is that the hat in itself is sufficient to give absolution for other style crimes. If so, it is an inexpensive philosophy - spend a small amount on a hat and you can then buy the rest at Walmart.

Some of them break this rule. Some dress like James Cagney - but they seem to be in a minority.

Thy seem to have a lot of nostalgia for the past (Including old movies). Whatever their philosophy, it seems to be group involvement and a lot of fun for the members.

Compare that to the interaction on another lounge that I hear is artificially controlled by the owner and where a bunch of not too experienced members congratulate each other over unfortunate decisions and everyone gets induced to buy over priced cloth, designed by someone inexperienced and with questionable taste.

The difference between the two lounges? The former is history and the later, pure  fantasy.

FL set the pace for 'Trad'.  Fact!

- A bubble world. Fun, but a certain kind of fun.

LL is different...  They try to get beyond their bubble, unlike FL & Trad... And then it all turns to ashes. The harsh light of day shines in on them...

A bubble world has to be protected and have stout city walls to keep reality at bay. FL & Trad/ The Curriculum and all those awful stale Trad blogs manage this trick just fine.

LL is too needy & ambitious. And so they fail. Had they presented themselves as a bit of fun they would have done much better.

Presenting themselves as something serious was their big mistake.

... But needy people do needy things...

They are a very tough old mob. l used the word "shoo porn" once and got the biggest dressing down of my life by a moderator who just treated me like a criminal. That's just one example. They have a different value system and way of thinking over there.

l'm still surprised at all the girls with tattooes over there. They have a fascination with old time skin art.

Let's be honset: the Capone Kids are geeks like all the rest of the iGents. I know those type of people (almost was one, once) and they are no better than guys who play computer games 24/7. They just dress better and substitute old cars and guns for computer games. They have their own self-appointed Expert, like the other "fora" - he of the girl hips and frowning camera poses, the erstwhile clothing company founder (co-founder, actually, as he shoved his partner overboard). The tatoo girls like old stuff, and are social misfits themselves, so they all fit together. I'm saying they're bad people, just geeks. Some are probably getting close to being iGents. Most secretly want to be Indiana Jones.

The Fedora Lounge is bunch of iGents who dress up, in the same way that kids do, because they lead dull and boring lives.

Contrary to lies of FNB and Woofboxer, I (and most of the other "Buff Bastards") have been banned from posting on this forum. There are only a few posters left so don't waste your time on here. This forum is dead and nobody cares.

There was quite a serious discusion on when to wear pith hemets recently. I kid you not.
Pith helmets are great for fishing in hot weather. You just dunk it in the water, give it a shake, and keep the noggin cool.

Gotta get 'em scuffed up, though. Nothing says "novice" like a pristine pith helmet

Returning to the Egyptian theme, time for a little Wilson, Keppel and Betty :-

Second dance without Betty is their classic. Nice way to make a living. Long career too.

Re: Anyone Understand The Fedora Lounge Philosophy?

The danger for the pith helmet enthusiasts is that they will end up mistaken for Lofty from 'It Ain't Half Hot Mum'

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SXP05QenlUw

They all think they will look like 'Sanders of the River'.

^ I do not fear this fate, for I know not of Lofty, and in any event I can paddle my canoe out of jeering range.
