I never wear jeans with a jacket I have to say but that sounds just about right to me. I like dark green sta prest with burgundy Weejuns but that's about as daring as I go, these days  colour wise. I'm far more conservative than you Lee, I think. But if it's one thing I can admire it's braver souls than myself so more power to you.

You said you were in your 50's on another thread, right? How long has Ivy been an influence for you Lee? I guess you have been a mod for years, has Ivy (even if you didn't call it that) been a part of your wardrobe for a while too? I'm interested because we often talk here about people feeling their way unknowingly towards The Look for a long time. Is this your experience?

Thanks for the compliments! Wow! I love the sound of that madras...Your Levi's sound like Bedford 'fog' big E's?

I was influenced from a very young age. My Dad was/is a 'Modernist'. He was going to the jazz clubs in Soho in the late 1950's before Modernism morphed into Mod.
He never wore an off the peg suit, he always had them made. He also had his shirts made by a local tailor. So style and the appreciation of a good cloth and cut have been handed down from him. There are some fantastic photos of me when I was a baby. They were taken in my grandparent's back garden in S.E. London. In the photos,my Dad and my uncles are wearing some very nice gear indeed. Italian knitwear, soft shouldered blazers and jackets etc..
Our family has always been 'into' music. My grandfather was an opera nut but my Dad and my uncles were well into jazz.THey were also into The Kinks, The Stones, The Who, Ray Charles, Georgie Fame ...the usual stuff. Notice that I didn't mention The Beatles? There were rows about who were better; The Beatles,Stones,Kinks....games of cribbage were ruined because of these rows ;-).

During the late 1970s/early 1980s  when the mod revival was happening ,I became bored with the 'sheep-like' way that so called mods dressed so much alike. That is not what Mod/Ivy is about. It should be a statement of individualism...within certain  peramiters. During this time, Covent Garden was being transformed from a run-down fruit market into a shopping area. Shops such as American Calssics and Flip opened up there. I would trawl through these shops picking up American made clothes for pennies...well almost. I bought about half a dozen pair of Levi 505s and 501 Big E for about £5 a pair!. Then John SImons opened up in Covent Garden and all my dreams came true...and I haven't looked back since.
There's so much more that I can tell you about this...If ever there is a meet-up in or close to LondonI would love to come along...

Re: Ivy League style for today

Thanks Lee(and George too). The shirt came from Zach at Newton Street Vintage. He does great things with that time machine of his. The Levis aren't big E. Nor are they LVC reissue. I did buy these after Oliver flagged the LVC 519 as having a good rise and taper though. I found mine on ebay for about $20 delivered but when they turned up they were far too baggy but were tapered, so I had them taken into my usual taper with a 14" bottom. I think the rise is higher on these than the LVC ones actually. More like the rise on vintage big E sta prest. The colour is probably much the same as what is called 'fog' now... but I've always known that colour as stone. The same way that Levis call, what I called sand, 'grit' now.

Thanks for the insight by the way. It's always good to know where other posters are coming from and you've definitely come from IT. Steeped in it, you are! Welcome to the forum btw if I haven't said so already.

Love the Bluchers. Love the tie.

I'm being a super slob today.

French F2 field jacket- bought this years ago for work but never wore it. Dug it out after the Woody Allen chat of the last few months.
Battered and frayed chambray BD
Uniqlo navy cotton crewneck
Off white big E Sta Prest- no prest left
Navy wool socks
Beater DB's- cola.

Somehow I think Mr Drink would approve.

We're having April in May. Camelhair blazer and big fat bastards, plus the Norwegian Sweater tie. In haste.

The "I Voted Today" sticker is from the Region One school budget referendum. If it fails I will run amok, because that would mean a whole new round of budget meetings to sit through. This is serious. Please direct all your ESP beams to Region One in Connecticut. "Vote yes, vote yes, vote yes."

Consider yourself lucky, we're having October in May. Thoroughly depressing.

It is a new one. I'm really pleased with it. Genuine  Indian Madras with a decent roll to the collar.

Re: Ivy League style for today

Hot days of pre summer...

Preppy day:

red Sebago Docksides (no socks)
light washed out yellow (like vanilla) Land's End Chino shorts
horizontal striped four button Polo navy/light blue with attached "collegiate" number on the chest (Peak Performance)
Ray Bans (don't know the model, those are "new" very 60s looking tortoise ones by Luxottica)

In the morning I wore a light blue cotton kable knit.

Spotted an older guy (about 70 years old) on the street that wore a checked (mostly blue/navy) button down poplin shirt wit decent collar roll, flat fronted greyish blueish linen trews with 1 3/4 inch cuffs (very uncommon here in Austria, cuffs are mostly on trews with pleats), perfect lenght (VERY slight break) no socks and burgundy beefrolls. His belt matched the shoes. If he had a Blazer it would have been easier to identify him as an Ivyist... but all in all he looked as Ivy as many here on the forum. The details - cuffs, trouser break,  Beefrolls, shirt with collar roll - were pretty Ivy. At least he looked VERY well dressed.

Tom,

I bought one of those Uniqlo button downs after seeing a post by your goodself. Haven't tried it yet but it looks a little on the small side but with my impending diet going into operation it may well turn out to be a good fit in a month or so.

Is it true that PS have kicked the bucket?

Can't get them at the British Shop anymore. They were great for cashmere sweaters.

Not cut for those carrying a little extra timber, but i like them, good simple everyday utility item, might pick up a couple more.
