David .. those loafers look pretty flash .. in a good way. Got to be in the right mood to put those on in the morning though.
I like your white/cream trousers as well .. what cloth are they made from? I'm always on the lookout for cream trouser material, but am always concerned that they could get easily ruined with a random spillage.
^ I think it's important to note that some people learn theory through the opposite direction, ie., the unravelling the code you mention, as opposed to building on learned theory with artistic ability. You pretty much mention it, just pointing it out further.
Very much the difference between building and sculpting I guess. Bill Evans was very much coming from the approach of building, it gave his music a quality that I sometimes feel was a bit lifeless but its genius slowly creeps up on you. Coltrane was trying to explore all he could at once, get it all out there and grapple it to the floor. Miles was in the middle. He considered like Evans but showed himself with the emotion of music. Three very different approaches all producing greatness. But Miles the most balanced in his approach and IMO the best. Although I feel Coltrane reflects how I feel better. The genius of course was to shove them all in a room and get an album out of them.
I agree. Miles is also my favorite of the bunch not so coincidentally.
Hmmm makes you wonder how all those cream flannel trouser wearing guys back in the 'sartorial golden age' got away with it. Surely even if you had staff to do laundry it would still be a problem as stains could turn out to be permanent.
In fact, English sportsman must have almost been putting two fingers up at fate as they CHOSE to wear white flannels to play cricket, tennis etc ... even going as far in cricket to shine their red cricket ball on their cream flannel trousers as a matter of habit .. thus making quite sure to grubby them. What is the logic of all this?

That's a nice colour, I'd call it a French Blue. Very vibrant as you say. Strolling past the yachts in a harbour with some white linen trousers ... ideal Its only 8 oz though FNB so why were you hot in this?
Ive been listening to some Miles Davis recently, after some of the above conversation started by BOP .. ive never opened myself up to Jazz as I didn't think it was for me, but im enjoying it .. its growing on me. I listened to the Miles Davis Some Kind of Blue album which didn't grab me and shake me around, but I was moving around to it and tapping my feet so I might be developing a taste for this kind of stuff. Any recommendations on what to check out next?
plum - start on Sketches of Spain if you are a classical buff. Its great even if you aren't. Read about it and the back story - makes it even more interesting

I would try out anything from Miles from round the 1958-1964 period. Or if you want a cool jazz sound. And not too fussed by it being modal or not. Art Pepper, Stan Getz, Bill Evans. Etc 1954-1964 is going to be a sweet spot Imo. Hep will be able to recommend more.
Oh and modern jazz quartet, ramsey lewis trio and oscar peterson

/\ those blues are great for the the seaside and in the bright sunlight, have one in superlight soft napped cotton, wish I remembered what the cloth was, quarter-lined, very nice in the summer with blue jeans
thanks guys for the jazz tips ... I love it when I discover something out of my consciousness & it has real meaning, unlike most of the superfluous shit fed to the masses by the popular media. Just got back from the theatre (watched The Duckhouse in the West End which was very funny, & had the bonus of a sexy Diane Vickers in lingerie & suspenders for a lot of the second half) so plan to get onto listening to those recommendations tomorrow .. maybe we should create a music thread if there isn't one already (I realise I am diverting this conversation away from the cloth related discussion above)?
