Soon you won't be worried about being ruled by Germans, this mob will be taking over:
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/politics/10867666/Stolen-election-in-the-heart-of-London.html
The lesson here is, even in a constituency where the bent candidates demographic are in a minority, they still get to win with the threat of civil war if they don't!
And they wonder why Scotland want's to leave the union.
I might make the point that my background is from County Cork and Tipperary and Italy and Prussian/German plus a significant bit of wandering Jew.
I've still been lumped as an Anglo in general parlance.
These days I'm mainly just a Skip.
Its a funny old world.
Heppie I read that article on whatsisname Towers, (Fawlty?), it seems bizarre from a purely technical view from here.
For a start we have an Australian Electoral Commission that oversees all government elections with a great degree of professional ism and public trust. The situation described would not be remotely possible here.
No council staff could be scrutineers, no mayor could be in counting room, scrutineers can challenge ballot papers but its orderly, only the commission can order a recount , and some days after with new staff etc. In addition voting is compulsory so everyone votes, mostly a good thing, all voting is on a Saturday with booths in nearly all neighbourhoods local, in schools, church halls, etc. No campaigning /etc within 10 metres of entrance etc.
I thought the English would be at least as organised if not better. Why is it such a schemozzle?
You can even hire the electoral comisioon to run your club or board election, and many do.

You have to get your name crossed off and put a paper in the box. Theres nothing to stop you voting for no one, or writing very rude words or drawings on it - I've been a scrutineer - its funny and naughty and sometimes pathetic what people write.
Compulsory voting is a long argument but on balance I'm convinced its better. Stops a lot of corruption and no one has to concentrate on just getting people out to vote - so, in theory at least, theres a focus on policies.
The problem is that we are NOT voting for any real govt, because in Oz no govt has royal assent under the Letters Patent, so this makes all govt in Australia unconstitutional, that's why l refuse to vote. When they send out the fine l write RTS and send it back and get them to pay the postage. I never hear back from them again.
The Oz govt has laudered 6 trillion dollars in three overseas acounts of our money, and my new friend Wayne has personally seen it sitting in those accounts. None of our tax dollars go into roads etc, it all comes from the 20 million that is put into our birth certificate accounts and put on the stock excahnge, and yes, Wayne has seen this too. And to take it even further, l know people who have used the birth certificate to pay bills, and a good friend is currently in a court battle and is attempting to do so right now.
I will produce an example of what l have done to pay a fine using my birth certificate in the next few days. I cross out the entire fine and put my terms and conditions, and the people l know who are doing it are having it accepted because it is a lawful financial instrument.
Some pretty important shit is going down in the aussie courts rights now. I can see a time when the public starts using their trust accounts to pay utility bills (to stop their fraud), and that local govt will eventually have a class action filed against them and need to repay all the rate money they have stolen off the Australian men and women. These landmark events are currently happening in the Magistrates and High Court, and it is going to come out into the public soon and people are going to be in for a big surprise....people are very busy working at this behind the scenes, we are all involved to take these bastards down. The Magistrates event has been big in the news too, but when we defeat the system it will become huge news and open the floodgates.

^ I should not have doubted you.
Damn Shooey. You do have some serious balls.
I can't stand it when voting time comes around and people start bugging me about it and asking me which candidate I'm voting for. I don't get really worked up too often, but a few years ago I slipped up and told someone who I voted for and they just wouldn't stop badgering me and making snide little comments about it around the office. I finally had enough and stood up, stormed over to their desk and told them to meet me outside. Once outside I told them, in no polite manner, to shut the fuck up. I was actually pointing my finger in their face. I also had a strong dislike for this person for some time prior, so it was kind of the last straw. Thankfully for me, they got fired soon after. My personal rule at this point, is just not to talk about politics, or religion, with people at work.
