London suit advice...

I'm getting a suit for my wedding I was looking for an off the peg but because my drop is 12 inches it's proving difficult..the best so far being a Richard James which managed to get round me in a 46r and the trousers appeared not that full and sat with a natural waist.

Trouble is I know Richard James is a bit of an RL take on things..nicley cut with good cloths but thrown together outside the UK and finished in England..

Anywhere on the row or round Mayfair I can get a OTP or M2M of a better standard for a price reflecting it's quality..I dont mind going up to about 13 hundred if the suit is decent and fits me how I want it.

And at that price I imagine I can begin to look at bespoke.. and if that's the case where is the best in London for that budget...?

Well, you probably want to get off Row if you want to maximize your value. Timothy Everest offers the whole gamut from RTW to bespoke. I think Hayward does as well, though I haven't kept up as much since Richie Charlton left.

I'd give Everest a go.

Cheers DH..I quite like the look of their softer shoulders..talking of which any idea what an A&S would be starting at?  I don't want a fancy cloth just a light wool in Navy.

Re: London suit advice...

Fly to Italy is my tip.

(Needless to say, not to visit one of the clown type tailors, who probably charge more than you want to spend anyway.)

As for odd trousers: if you're blowing all that cash and time then get a suit. If it's decent you can get a lot of wear out of it, even if you avoid using it for work purposes. I know a suit is too dressed up for many occasions in this day and age, but still, when you can get away with it, they're invaluable. I'd avoid a repp too, as I don't think they work in this country. A nice foulard or maybe plain colour will do you fine. Really I'd worry about that once you get the suit sorted.

Good luck. I've had 3 suits made in my life, and they've all been crap, but unless you choose the tailors I went to - unlikely - I'm sure you'll do better.

It's certainly not for everyone, but it's not a farce either. It's the only way to really have full expressive control of what you wear. There's also the plain gratification of having something made for you and you alone.
