The closest I have seen to the Annie Hall style chino is a new model from Brooks. It has a slightly wider bottom. Not flared though. On the website it intimates they’re modelled on a heritage cut.
I like the idea of these but haven’t seen them in the flesh
Seen them but size 40 is the largest they've got. And I'm a 42, for now. The smallest I've been in 10 years. At my normal weight I a am 38, which I'm trying to get to again.
I've bought Lands' End Trad Fit chinos for so long now that I want to wear something new, something of better quality. Waiting for the RRL chinos (Classic-fitting trousers with a straight leg and a high rise. Made from Japanese cotton twill. Inspired by field trousers from the 1940s. Washed for added softness.) to be re-stocked in my size. They cost 199 euros and that is propably the most I'm willing to pay for pants.
Received an email yesterday from M&S promoting their Jaegar spring / summer range, a couple of pairs of regular fit 100% cotton chinos look ok, online and instore at a 8-10 selected locations,(Bluewater, Westfield etc), and a couple of collared cardigans look ok,
What about these PRL Relaxed Fit Utility trousers (crusty semen stains included).
Stax- My missus worked for Jaeger once upon a time and I ended up with lots of Jaeger non ivy clothes of very good quality. I suppose M &S have bought the name so they can sell at a higher than usual price point. I wonder what the quality of the chinos are like? Keep us posted.
I did take a look at the PRL chinos, looked good to me although the price looks steep and maybe the leg opening a tad wide for my build, ( don’t want to go the AS look), in light of recent online purchases that I’ve had to return I’ve decided not to buy any more trousers online,
Robbie- one of the M&S stores that’s listed as stocking Jaegar is at a retail park about 20 mins drive from me, but the website said they were out of stock,( maybe not ‘ stocked’ yet), so I’ll probably take a drive over there this week to see if maybe they are stocked and the website is wrong,it did say stock changes quickly, I’ll report back !
I was in the M & S store in Southend last week but it's mainly food and the menswear area is small and shrinking every time I go. Didn't notice any Jaeger clothes and they didn't have cords in my size.
By the way Stax hope Brentford start to get some decent results
Robbie- Jaegar just in certain stores, I think maybe In Westfield Stratford? ,
Brentford- yep we need to turn it around or we’ll be back in the championship, didn’t help ourselves yesterday with a bizarre sending off on 10 minutes, thanks for your concern!
RRL Field Chinos (straight leg wider hem, not to be confused with the slim Officer Chino) are sound chinos in terms of fit. Be forewarned that they run huge. I'm typically a 34/36 and I wear a 32 waist which runs 88cm. The leg opening is 23cm which is pretty accommodative for thick calves. You'll find none of this info on the RL site. Their sizing chart is a joke. Also, I visit the Orvis outlet (Stateside) regularly where Ultimate Chinos are sometimes as cheap as $15usd. Although this is my first post and no one knows me from Adam shipping to the UK wouldn't be out of the question. The shipping would be the most expensive bit.
Worth a mention as well - Bill Khakis in the M2 cut is similar to the RRL Field Chino in terms of calves and leg opening. The M1 is gigantic, laughably so. There's a seller on fleabay from Maine who has a ton of Bill Khakis for decent prices. For reference a 34 waist on the M2 measures 43.5cm and the leg opening 23cm. They're the best chinos I've had, better than the RRL's.
Welcome to the forum Rux, good to get some Stateside input,
Welcome Rux, much appreciated American perspective
All-important; more than ever now, I should say.
Yes. Welcome Rux. As with Patrick, I love to hear the perspective from the other side of the pond. Great info. Thanks.
I visited my local Orvis over the weekend. Very much in a state of jumble sale sell off. Still plenty in there, but mainly larger sizes, so no good for me. Plenty of harrington style jackets in there though if anyone's in the market for one at the moment.
Thanks for the warm welcome fellas. I've always appreciated British candor and have been enjoying reading through the threads a bit at a time.
Please chip in as often as you like, Rux. Whereabouts in the US are you?
Thanks : ) Vermont and Boston. In the summer the Dordogne in France which is like a little Britain with all the expats.
Beautiful. My wife and daughter passed through Boston in 2012 on their way to Cape Cod. Liked what they saw.
The Dordogne? Lucky man!
