Community Clothing are now producing a made in England 100% cotton chore Jean in putty or navy. Tapered and with a high waist. I might be interested.

I saw them, they are a strange chino/5pocket hybrid with slant hip pockets and patch rear pockets. But they sort of work as a slightly more casual khaki trousers. No doubt being C.C. the quality and construction will be excellent. But last thing I need is more chinos or light colored trousers..

I need some trousers urgently so I've just ordered some of the chore jeans. I still don't understand how the word chore has become an adjective, and they certainly don't look like jeans to me, regardless I have high hopes. All being well, they're heavy enough for the UK spring and light enough for the summer.

That pocket styling is the same as the iconic McQueen Levi’s but they have a standard 5 pocket waistband and not the continental style.

Silvermans' are pretty good for the price, Yuca.  You can take them anywhere.  As Uncle Ian says elsewhere, though, wash them through a few times before considering alterations.

For 20 quid you can't really argue with Silverman's!

Sadly Silvermans ran out of 30??  years ago so had to do with my solitary pair. For the price they are perfect, rolled up and thrown in a bag when cycling to work, washed, worn and bettered - perfect.

I also feel good about buying from Community Clothing. The Harrington looks on the short side for me and my long torso but it's good to read it's well made. Years ago I believe most clothes were well made in the uk but having imported rubbish for many years we have forgotten this.

The lambswool cardigans made in Hawick? Good quality I guess but they never seem to have all the sizes in stock. I hope CC can survive long term.

‘Hawick’ was a brand name used by one of  the department store chains, possibly House of Fraser. But of course that didn’t mean the stuff was actually made in the town of Hawick!

Going on a lambswool crew neck I bought from CC, the quality is very good, think old Alan Paine. The reason that they are low on stock sometimes is because you have to wait while the stuff is made. This happened with my CC sweatpants which took about 4 weeks to come. But worth the wait.

I used to quite like visiting House of Fraser in Lakeside but Mike Ashley Sports Direct bought the group out of administration and the change in the store was very noticeable

Debenhams had a mens brand called Maine which had a New England Preppy/Ivy lighthouse keeper vibe to it. It didn’t look bad, but again the quality was poor.. By then the race to the bottom was underway with Primark in the lead.
