Hi all
What chinos are we wearing?
Lots to choose from.
I have a pair of US Army ones, straight and fairly wide leg. At one time JS produced a military style high rise chino, I bought a pair and really liked them. So, when they went on sale I stocked up on two more pairs. I doubt I’ll ever wear them out as I usually wear off white or denim jeans most of the time now.
This is always a great question.
For me, - after wasting countless time, energy and money - the perfect chino is Bills M3 fit with a taper added by my local tailors.
In the Summer months I only wear chinos so in my rotation I have amassed quite a collection of different options.
Why Bills when they're so expensive these days?
They're constructed more like a trouser so the waistband can be easily altered to get the exact size, fabric selection is very good and has over the years ranged from a polished Chamois cotton, heavier Vintage twill, Poplin and enzyme washed cotton. The standard of finish is very good. They're are not stingy with belt loops or the depth of the pocket bags and they strengthen the waistband so it doesn't roll.
I also prefer off white colours and they always carry trousers in bone and cement.
I appreciate that they're not cheap and, for many, spending top dollar on cotton casual trousers may be seen as foolish but I have had so many bad experiences of chinos I now stick to what I like.
First port of call is Mainestyle on Ebay - but stick with the traditional colours. John Simons also had some deadstock last year
Don't buy from the Bills website as you'll get hammered by HMRC. Also the M1 is far too baggy.
Flat fronted Chinos are my go to trousers. I have quite a few pairs including RL, Gant, Uniqlo, John Lewis on brand. Never got round to buying Bills M3 but have some made in USA khakis straight and wide legged . My favourite colour appears to be olive green but I have most bases covered. Last Saturday I went to the local club wearing my olive Gant chinos. They are a great fit but the depth of pockets isn't great. I only carried my credit card and membership card. Sure enough I lost the credit card sometime during the evening. Luckily it was handed in and I got it back Sunday lunchtime. The club members are older, honest people. If I'd lost it in my local pub it would have been a different story.

Good news on your cards.
Like you I have a wide range of chinos - covering different brands, fits, price points and fabric compositions.
Over the years I've also sent back plenty of options that are typically too low rise.
Bills M1 are very wide, traditional cut. Almost like Army surplus. M2 are roomy but have great rise and more shape than M1. You can easily get them altered. M3 is a slightly lower rise but has a a good thigh shape and feels more contemporary.
Robbie - how many beverages in were you when you noticed the card missing... haha, on a serious note one of the things I like about the Uniqlo chinos is the small pocket within the front right pocket, ideal for your card holder,( having my bank cards on my phone is a step too far for me I'm afraid). I think some old Brooks chinos I have have the same feature, unusually for me I stocked up ( 4 pairs), on the Uniqlo chinos from a couple of years ago, pleased I did it as they really are my go-to chinos and they don't have them anymore to the best of my knowledge, sadly my Keydge frog mouth chinos from 10+ years ago are showing signs of wear,
Alvey - you've got me thinking about chino upgrades to the Bills M3's, when you've bought from Mainstyle on Ebay have they sneaked through UK customs or have you been hit with duties,VAT & fees ?
Stax-I was quite a few beverages in and didn't know my card was missing till I got home. My first reaction was to phone up the credit card company and they walked me through blocking the card on the app. I was a little bit pissed but managed it. I have the card on my phone but prefer to use the actual card.
AS- All my chinos have a good rise but you have got me interested in the Bills. My misses has a Ukrainian friend in her Red Cross group who has done a very good job altering her red coat that she bought from JS. I'm thinking I could use her in the future.
