It only now occurs to me that 'Traditional American' would allow us to keep the snappy name "Trad" too. Only it would be honest Mike's coinage and not lying Harris'.
Mike's "Trad" is rather more like Ivy League updated too I fancy.
Harris' "Trad" was a fake name for an OPH based rehash backed up with multiple lies about his dead Dad. What a way to treat your father's memory!
Mike could even be the new 'Godfather of (the new & far realer) Trad' if he fancied also.
It's a thought with much to recommend it and it would give us our "Trad" reformation which we need so much.
... And with Mike in charge I would remove the quotation marks from "Trad", even...
Shall we do it Mike?
A Traditional American clothes movement without any made up bullshit?
Mike's Trad - A take on the old so called "Ivy" style for today. The name is an honest construct being just 'Traditional American' shortened, not something pinched & misunderstood from a Japanese take on the style backed up with various conflicting lies about the origin of the term.
No made up 'Curriculum'. Just the clothes we all know & love.
No lies from Mike about being a Yankee and then morphing into a Southerner whilst pretending to be the expert on this style as taught by his father.
No inventions, no post thefts from Horace, no bluffs & tactical silences.
Just a guy who likes the clothes sharing his enthusiasm.
Mike has my vote. How about you?
This has to be better than the web of self-serving lies over on AAAT. No?
Seriously -
James.

Mike: We've known each other for many years but this is the first time you've ever come to me for counsel or for help. I can't remember the last time you invited me to your house for a cup of coffee, even though my wife is Godmother to your only child. But, let's be frank here. You never wanted my friendship and you were afraid to be in my debt.
Russell: I didn't want to get into trouble with the Trads.
Mike: I understand. You found paradise on the Internet. You had a good trade, made a good living, the Moderators protected you and there were courts of law and you didn't need a friend like me. But, now you come to me and you say "Mike, give me justice." But you don't ask with respect. You don't offer friendship. You don't even think to call me Godfather. Instead, you come you ask me be Godfather of 'Ivy'.
Russell: I ask you for justice.
Mike: That is not justice your 'Ivy' is still alive.
Russell: Let the Trads suffer then. As 'Ivy' suffers. How much shall I pay you?
Mike: Bonasera. Bonasera. What have I ever done to make you to treat me so disrespectfully. If you had come to me in friendship then this scum that ruined your 'Ivy' would be suffering this very day. And if by chance an honest man like yourself should make enemies then they would become my enemies. And then, they would fear you.
Russell: Be my friend... Godfather.
Cheers

I emphatically deny any associations with AAAT except through family. Are you trying to TEACH me something ? I'm not sure you are Moderate enough in your style.
Cheers
Wise words.
For those with the key to the ultra-secret code.

Great stuff, Shuman - Thanks.
I love all these remembrances of Classic orTraditional American style just offered to share information. No points to score, no theories to prove.
AAAT as it comes from the South primarily (although it looks to New England) is bound to be different to all this when you think about it. There is another mindset at work.
It's a shame things have worked out they way they have... But I think that's just the nature of the Internet and some people not being able to resist playing the Internet Gentleman.
Each man kills the thing he loves, eh?
The guys could have talked cut, cloth and culture, but instead they went a different way.
They are still our brothers though...
But aren't you glad you don't have to share a bedroom with them?
J.
/\ Maybe this is what has never set well with my personal interpretation of the Trad/TNSIL/Preppy look, is the generous use of bright colors such as lime green embroidered pants. Perhaps the midwestern understatement and the New England thrift and frugality are not so different.
Russ, thanks for putting my thoughts into words.
I need to think on this. Are there items which seem normal to my thoughts of the New England bend on TNSIL, but are absent in the AAAT version of Trad?
Jeans for example...

I've read over this thread, puzzled. For chums like me and Trip, it's always been about the clothing of our Fathers.
